sirius hurts remus not because of the jewelry, but because it’s in his nature.

he is self-destructive at the core and actively tries to shut down anything remotely well for him besides his friendships, not because he doesn’t think he deserves good but because he doesn’t know who he is without it. it’s both a trauma response and a coping mechanism.

and sure, he hates being alone, but he pushes people away. he doesn’t like his hair short but he cuts it in the bathroom one night after a particularly bad break down. he can’t stand his mother but he acts just like her to insult someone when he’s particularly pissed off.
