Reversal of popular trope where instead of Trinity moving in with Baran, somehow Baran moves in with Trinity. The custody agreement gets revisited and her ex gets full custody. To make things easier for their son, Baran agrees that he should stay in the house with his primary caregiver. Everything moves faster than anticipated and work makes things too busy to properly think things through.
Adrift, forty and now homeless of her own choice, she ends up taking up Trinity's offer of a place to crash for a few days/weeks while she finalises an apartment. She'd imagined reliving an errant youth she's not really had, crashing on the couch politely for a day or two, until she at least sorted a nice hotel, but she's surprised when Trinity gives up her own bedroom.
'It was a good excuse to deep clean,' she shrugs, ears pink. 'Not that it was like, awful before, just-'
'I was a resident too, Trinity, trust me, I know what you mean.'
Dennis is in the process of moving out himself, and if Baran is still there in a few weeks, Trinity figures she could move in there temporarily, save Baran more upheaval.
Of course while Trinity is the one sleeping on the couch with all her things in her room, they have to navigate Trinity needing her own things, sometimes half-asleep and forgetting to knock, Baran gently telling her it's okay if she comes in to her own room, and then of course the inevitable 'accidentally walking in on your very attractive boss turned temporary roommate turned friend and being gay over seeing her shoulders'.
And then Dennis is gone and it is just the two of them but somewhere along the way Baran had said the couch was clearly killing her back, they could share, and Baran hasn't booked an apartment viewing in weeks, and neither can imagine not waking up with the other's hair tickling her nose, Baran's tank tops mixing with Trinity's muscle tees in the limited storage space.
"What in the world?" Baran asked as she let herself into the apartment - the lights were off in the hallway, Trinity always left them on when Baran was expected home late.
There was a soft glow coming from the living room at the end of the hall so Baran made quick work of her shoes and headed onwards. She came to a full stop where linoleum met carpet.
Small lights lined the edges of the ceiling, throwing the room in a glow of color. In the center of the room? Her girlfriend with the dorkiest smile in existence. "You said you never really got the whole… college… resident apartment living experience. Lights on the ceiling are essential." Trinity motioned for her to come forward, "now normally this would involve some kinda Taco Bell situation but I figured in this era of questionable produce sourcing I would make our own Taco Bell. Thetr would be alcohol and pot too but alcohol isn't exactly great with your meds and we gotta random drug test coming up soon. Don't ask how I know. So! I splurged and got us some of that Welch's bubbly celebration juice."
"You did all of this because I mentioned I never did this in college? Or my residency?"
A grin started to form on Trinity's lips, "obviously! And I've also got it narrowed down to 3 shows for you to pick from this evening. Master Chef Junior - wholesome. Kids competing with cooking. Ru Paul's Drag Race - self explanatory. Or Ice Road Truckers… also self explanatory."
Baran wanted to kiss her.
So she did.
