sometimes i see religious (often specifically abrahamic religious) folks say that it would be sad if there was no intent behind the creation of the universe and all the things in it, like that itd be less beautiful. and like i really do not understand that point of view literally at all. it is actually like absurdly opposite to how i feel. when things just Exist and that’s it, beautiful to me despite there being no intent whatsoever, i think that’s even more awesome than when things are made with intent. i think it’s beautiful that everything we are, everything that is, is only here because of processes beyond anyone’s control, set in motion by nobody. complexity from relative simplicity. emergent behavior. we are held together with fundamental forces, guided by rules most cannot fathom, on a game board made by itself. and we figured this all out because we are driven to discover knowledge in order to survive and thrive. everything is systems upon systems, and isn’t it wonderful to be part of that? the future doesn’t exist yet and has no predictors or guides. let’s go see it
