I LIKE THINGS

I mean as long as I have been on internet, I always joined to the forums that caught my interest. when it was pets, Harry Potter and the second it was visual kei and fan fiction.

forums were superior, because people actually moderated those conversations, there were long time members that could help newbies with the rules and the normal behavior inside the fandom.

if you truly wanted to make friends with someone you grabbed their msn messenger address and added them to your contacts. planned meet ups for everyone to get know each others irl.

I blame Facebook for all this, because they were the first one offering free hosting for the groups and a lot of forums shifted their activities to there which killed the forums and killed the interaction.

now we have twitter (I refuse to use name x), TikTok, Tumblr, YouTube, discord channels and reddit and we are all over the places! yes reddit and discord do have mods but I feel like they only act when people keep posting same thing over and over. I feel like I have never seen reddit mod actually participating to the conversations. discords feels more like chat room than place to have meaningful conversation.

these platforms are trying to encourage you to start new conversation every time. doesn't matter if people talked about the s5e15 couple weeks ago. their rule is "new is always better".

algorithm is gatekeeping the content, they just show what is popular/new, they put people with the following on the pedestal and it's stupid because there could actually be cool thing from people with the less engagement. we just don't see it because modern way to communicate with each others doesn't want us to see all things.
