HERE'S MY TAKE ON MARIA IF SHE WAS IN SONIC BOOM!!

I saw this incredible and hilarious image of Boom Shadow dapping up a Boom looking Maria and I wanted to try and do sm with it so here it is!!

I didn't get too into it, but in this universe, the whole ark thing still happened in a different font, but Maria managed to get cured via Shadow's DNA. Which means 2 things. 1) She's technically Shadow's sibling by blood. 2) Since I lowkey consider Shadow to be immortal, Maria got that aspect of it and ages slower now. Specifically, she ages one year every five years. So, by 2025, she'd be in her 20s! That's all the lore I figured out!

In my head, she got a lot more cool alien quirks, so lmk if you guys wanna see that >:)!!

For the mini-comic, I imagined Sonic not believing Shadow could surf and, like an absolute idiot, challenged him to a surf off. They were allowed to compete in groups so Shadow immediately rang up his hippie surfer sis and she was more than down to help Shadow win. However, Shadow tells Maria everything, so she immediately recognizes a specific individual and felt the sibling urge to mess with her bro. I need to draw more sibling dynamics between two, they're awesome.

My best friend is a man and he hates walking without me or in parking lots while other women are around because he knows they perceive him as a threat. So here are things he does:

1. If he notices he’s walking behind a lone woman he stops to tie his shoe or look at his phone. He waits for her to get further ahead before continuing.

2. He crosses the street if he can so there is a larger distance.

3. He calls me or his mom and makes it known he is talking to a female and not some guy.

It costs him a few minutes but he knows that he is causing women anxiety, so a few minutes are worth it.

Do not actively do abnormal things to creep people out or scare them, sure but never ever for the love of god go out of your way to avoid scaring somebody because you exist while male.

The massive majority of stranger street violence is committed against men. (4 times as much).

The massive majority of violent crimes committed against women were not committed by stranger.

The fear is real, but its not based on reality, its based on sexist stereotypes. I know that may be hard for some women to hear.

I was going to say you (Kassie) are wrong, because although it sucks to be seen as a threat for who you are, if a gesture helps make the world less stressful for someone else then do it.

But then I stopped to think.

And like...

Women, especially white women, are generally more afraid of black men when they're alone at night than of white men. And of men who seem poor or homeless than of rich looking men. And expecting those subgroups to cater more to the fears of women would rightfully be called racism and classism. So.... yeah.

I'll still try and show I'm not a threat when I'm being read as a man and in a situation that could make a person of a marginalized gender (presentation) uncomfortable or scared, but I understand the argument as to why this shouldn't be desired.
