If I hear one more fucking person call it "The Outlander Song" or express surprise at my use of the "Wrong" (that is the ORIGINAL) lyrics, I am going to grab the claymore off Dad's wall and start swinging.
It's The Skye Boat Song.
It's a POLITICAL song about the escape of Bonny Prince Charlie to the island of Skye. It was never a fucking lovesong about some random girl.
The lyrics used by Outlander (an American show by an American author) were shoved onto the (written for politics) tune by an ENGLISH aristocrat who decided Scotland and Scottish politics were too "ugly" for such a pretty tune.
A FUCKING ENGLISH ARISTOCRAT STOLE THE TUNE AND MADE IT A LOVESONG TO DEFANG SCOTLAND SO STOP CALLING IT THE FUCKING OUTLANDER SONG YOU FUCKING WANKERS.
(And yes, the song is deeply inaccurate in terms of the actual history of what happened with Bonny Prince Charlie, who Flora was and why she did what she did, etc, but there is a massive difference between a culture romantising its own past and someone from a culture which oppressed - yes: oppressed, my grandfather was beaten in school for daring to speak Scots Gaelic, a group can be oppressed and be involved in the oppression of others see colonialism - another culture deliberately stripping political meaning from a part of that other culture.)
