Insights form the interview
We interviewed participants of PGP-2 i.e. those who had just finished the final placement process and some from PGP-1.
On asked questions regarding their strengths and weakness in the interviews, a few of them answered communication skills as their forte. On further probing, they attributed this to regular reading habits, conversations at home and with friends, little hesitation on interaction with strangers.
Our observation was there where three categories of students. One, who had good communication skills, second who lacked it but were unaware or were not accepting it and finally those who knew that they did not have good communication skills and courageous enough to accept it. The First category of people where discussed in the earlier paragraph so here we would focus on the last two.
During our process we met with few people who did not have good communication skills, and when probed about the same to them, few accepted the fact and few did not.
From our observation there were few things common amongst these people.
1) They are not avid reader.
2) Few who accepted this said that the environment in which they grew up did not help them improve upon their communication skills, few people were also reported telling that peer groups play an important part in this process and if you don’t have a friend circle in which you communicate in English that also affects a lot.
3) Some said that it was just lack of habit in communicating in the language which is problematic, and when it comes to the situation when it matters the most ( for example GD/PI during placements) the succumb to the pressure and stammer but if they had the habit of speaking in English that would not have happened.
Hence we could safely generalise two reasons why these people lack communication skills: Basic formal development or lack of practice.
Next we also asked few of them how they are working on improving this problem and the responses where the following:
Reading Newspapers and books
Conversing in English as much as they can
Staying in a group where they are forced to speak in English
Informal GDs
Personality Development sessions
Modified Empathy Map
Problem Statement
How can I help Students of PGP-1 with their need to reduce fear and anxiety and build confidence as they need to converse more in English ?

Version 1 Prototype
Responses to Version 1 Prototypes
The issues faced by students during placement process is properly tackled and various activities for the same is depicted. Here we had shown a proper flow of activity for a student with language issue will go by at his stay at institute. Proper orientation and formation of non-regional groups were appreciated and some concerns were raised on its proper implementation.
Version 2 Prototype
Responses to Version 2 Prototypes
Proper flow of activities was shown. Positive response on informal activities. Some innovative ideas like karaoke (singing on English Songs) were appreciated. Formal activities were in line with the one already followed. But proper channeling of the same has been done.

Empathy Map
Problem Statement
How can I help PGP OFFICE in conducting quiz and classes in a manner so as to ensure continuous learning for student
Insights form the interview
The following were the insight that we got after interviewing various stakeholders in the process:
From Students:
For students it is very confusing as the rules made for the exam require id cards and at times in open notes quizzes students don't have notes as there was no class scheduled.
Students feels under pressure all the time.
Student have to skip their meals/classes to prepare for the quiz if they are anticipating one to happen.
Students need to keep checking their mobile phones/ laptop very frequently in anticipation of a quiz, which in case of low connectivity or unavailability of internet is a problem.
Students can not rest/relax after the class as one of the student interviewed missed his quiz because he slept after the class and wasn’t informed about the quiz.
Students have to check their mails (phones) in class (for quiz updates) which is a violation of rule.
From Faculty:
Faculties are currently disappointed from the current system of surprise quiz.
If the student come to know about the quiz during the class, they try to prepare for the quiz during the ongoing class thus hampering the proceedings of the class.
Faculty believe that if it is appropriate to keep a fix time slot in the morning for the quiz(before the class probably), and let the rest of the classes as it is.
The purpose of a surprise quiz should be to keep the students prepare all the time not to put them under pressure.
Whereas some believe that quizzes are meant to test the understanding of the student of a subject or a topic and not to prepare them for the pressure.
The appropriate thing according to one of the faculty is to give the students sufficient time to prepare and so classes should be held till 1:00 PM and the quiz should be held in the second half (most apt timing is 5:00 P.M.)
From PGP Office:
Scheduled quizzes are easier for them to arrange over surprise quizzes.
Expects students to check their mails frequently.
If quiz is to be conducted across multiple sections, availability of TAs, Classroom and scheduling to suit class timings become a problem.
Often face problems with students not bringing I-cards during quizzes and issuing temporary I-cards.
From Academic associates:
Feel that students are careless about quizzes as they come late to quizzes.
Often information is not passed properly about which materials to allow during open book test.
Many students are caught cheating during the surprise quizzes due to lack of preparation as a consequence of the surprise element.
Clustering of Ideas
Version 1: Prototype 1
The concept was to build an app called 'QuizIt for IIM Indore' where Students can:
Take the quizzes online
Submit Assignments in short online
Can download and go through a model lecture
Challenge a friend
Get their real time performance score
Keep themselves updated with Academic schedule
Task manager to keep a track of all the activies

Version 1 Prototype 2:
The concept was to increase the weightage of the component for 'Class Participation'. Also there should be some on the spot rewards like book be given to the participation on a positive contribution
The another component was to have an inter-section Case presentation competition.
Version 1 Prototype 3
The Concept was to implement 'One Student, One Teacher, One Classroom. Under this every student can select a faculty of his choice to guide on a particular subject/topic. In each session 1 faculty will be allocated to a student paying total attention to the concern of the student. This way student can focus on that subject, get total attention to clarify his doubts and thus improving the performance.
Response to Version 1 prototypes
After taking feedback from the stakeholders on the three prototypes we came across a few shortcoming in all the three prototypes:
Prototype 1: Prototype 1 has raised a concern for security and authenticity of the quiz taker.
Prototype 2: Prototype 2 raised the concern of availability of classrooms to accommodate students from all the sections. Also rewarding for every positive participation looks to clumsy.
Prototype 3: Prototype 3 raised the concern of availability of faculty as well as classroom for such a large batch strength.

Design Challenge How to enhance the preparedness of students for classes at IIM Indore
Customer Journey Map
Empathy Map:
Insights:
The teachers feel that the interest level of the students has fallen and students are not curious to learn
Teachers believe that learning is not prime objective of the students
Some teachers believe that the hectic academic schedule and lack of proper administrative measure are the reasons for low level of student preparedness for the classes
Students do not have sufficient time to prepare for the class
Group studies have not served the purpose of collective learning.
CP component and strict measures do not ensure active participation in class from all the students
Some teachers are willing to opt for strong measures to increase the level of preparation of students to the class
Problem Statement:
To improve the method of lecture delivery at IIM Indore because student participation ( both attendance and CP wise) has constantly been on the decline.
Prototyping:
Ideation:
Prototypes:
Prototype 1:
Video submissions for group assignments can be implemented. Instead of existing of assignments which majorly constitute document submissions , the faculty can direct participants of a group to shoot a video regarding the assignment.
This has the following advantages:
1)The problem of free riders could be mitigated.
2)Soft skills would be improved
3)Better preparedness for classes
Prototype 2:
Students can be asked to make brief presentations on the cases. Professor would cold call randomly one of the groups to briefly present the case and the case discussion is carried from there. Rest of the students would question the group that would be presenting . With this reasoning and presentation skills of students would improve.
Prototype 3:
Online simulations that would enable practical learning can be implemented.
Response of the user:
A professor was happy to hear the idea we proposed with prototype 1. He said he will implement this because the effort that the faculty has to put in in evaluation will come down by this.
Version 2 of the prototype:
Our Prototype 1 was the most liked prototype by the stakeholders. So we have taken into consideration the feedback by our stakeholders and incorporated them into the version 2 of the prototype along with some features from other 2 prototypes:
The front camera of the mobile phone will be activated during the quiz so that the possibility of impersonation is zeroed down.
Copy-Paste feature will be disabled.
Quizzes be scheduled such that everyone has some quiz at the same time.
IP/Mobile number based tracking of the submission of the quizzes and assignment.
from prototype 3, instead of one student one faculty, every student will be assigned one mentor along side regular faculty who can be either faculty or PGP-2 student.

Customer Journey Map
Empathy Map
Insights
User feels disappointed because there is a lack of proper organization
User feels depressed because of lack of proper explanation of the less shortlists
User feels confused due to random nature of the process
User feels tired because of lack of planning in the arrangements of pre placements after long hours of classes
Problem Statement
“Participants not having enough support from the committee with existence of few circumstances that deteriorates the confidence of the people and lack of proper organization of placement processes.”
Prototype
Design Thinking basically includes customer journey map wherein you select a problem to be solved with Tasks, Touch Points and Emotions and Experiences. After capturing all the ingredients of the map, then we proceed to Empathy map which includes Quotes/defining words, Actions and Behaviors on left hand side and Thoughts and Beliefs and Feelings and emotions on the right hand side. You take surveys and questionnaires through interviews to capture all emotions, actions and beliefs through observation and letting the other person speak without direct answers. After design of Empathy map you will formulate and comeup with a problem statement. The sequence of any design thinking goes like this 1. Empathize, 2. Define , 3. Ideate, 4. Prototype and 5. Test. After finishing the Empathy and Definition part you proceed to one of key step in Design Thinking called Ideation. In Ideation you basically undergo brainstorming to come up solutions possible in many ways, like you think of zero budget restrictions, child like thinking, super powers, etc., Then you try to categorize the solutions and consolidate at some place to have an overall view. All these maps and ideas will necessarily be captured in some sheets and scribbles. After consolidating you proceed to prototype wherein you implement ideas and solutions to existing design and come up with a prototype. Then you proceed to testing of your prototype with some more interviews to get general perception of feasibility and further enhancements in existing design. After following the above steps you have finally underwent many stages in design thinking before you come up with the final solution. One will be able to build prototype rapidly and test their ideas.
Response:
Thoughts and Emotions during the workshop:
One can clearly see that they have faced multiple transitions in their Thoughts and Emotions. Design Thinking basically includes many maps/ sheets wherein one will put in their thoughts and ideas which will cover major portion only if someone goes through multiple transitions of emotions. One will observe and capture others behaviors and emotions while interviewing them through observation and critical thinking. Be it is customer journey map, be it empathy map or even ideation emotions and thoughts during design thinking bring many perspectives in coming up with solutions which will be feasible because of the critical observations and ability to capture them in many forms. Emotions and thoughts if not prompted to think in terms of zero restriction and child like thoughts will not have occurred to any individual trying to solve through brain storming.
