What if Marlow learned Russian at some point? Like heās not fluent, or even conversational, but heās picked up some random words from being Ilyaās line mate for so long. Sometimes when Ilya would say something in Russian, Cliff would ask what it meant, then try to commit the meaning to memory. Ilya when drunk told him that he loved him, and repeated it in Russian several times. Cliff remembers what it sounds like well enough but it doesnāt really come up.
