'I feel too much. That's what's going on.' 'Do you think one can feel too much? Or just feel in the wrong ways?' 'My insides don't match up with my outsides.' 'Do anyone's insides and outsides match up?' 'I don't know. I'm only me.' 'Maybe that's what a person's personality is: the difference between the inside and outside.' 'But it's worse for me.' 'I wonder if everyone thinks it's worse for him.' 'Probably. But it really is worse for me." Jonathan Safran Foer, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close

Have you ever lost someone you love and wanted one more conversation, one more chance to make up for the time when you thought they would be here forever? If so, then you know you can go your whole life collecting days, and none will outweigh the one you wish you had back.
Mitch Albom, For One More Day (via bookmania)
Holly Golightly: You know those days when you get the mean reds? Paul Varjak: The mean reds, you mean like the blues? Holly Golightly: No. The blues are because you’re getting fat and maybe it’s been raining too long, you’re just sad that’s all. The mean reds are horrible. Suddenly you’re afraid and you don’t know what you’re afraid of. Do you ever get that feeling?

“Love isn’t soft, like those poets say. Love has teeth which bite and the wounds never close.”
― Stephen King, The Body
Relationships
“It's hard to make relationships work with others when you don't have a good relationship with yourself.”
― Joe Hill, Locke & Key, Vol. 4: Keys to the Kingdom
Hey Guys!
We’re so grateful for all the positive comments we have received for the Book Exchange Program from our initial post so LET’S DO THIS! We’ll have to test-run this first time and see from there what we can learn to improve the system but for now here are the guidelines:
1) Books Exchanges will be organized one batch a month. (Posting a timeline below)
2) Books for swapping should be readable and at least in fair quality. Who wouldn’t just love to get a quality book in return? Unfortunately, we have the right to say no to a book if it does not pass our standards (sorry!). Anyhow, it’s our pleasure to lead you to quality books.
3) To join this Book Exchange you’ll need to accomplish a form (as seen above). All participants who have submitted a form shall be automatically included in the Book Exchange in a specified batch (congrats if you do!) Thus, they should be fully committed to the Book Mania Book Exchange Program.
4) Book Mania will not publicly post participants’ info on the blog after they have submitted their registration forms (promise!).
5) Registration will go on for one (1) week and after it is closed, Book Mania will collate and post within three (3) days. For the unfortunates who won’t able to submit their forms within the designated time, there’s good news to you! You can still join the next swap. You will always be welcome!
6) Since we will be separating Local and International swaps, Local Swaps will be segregated by country based on the entries we have received. If only one (1) participant joined in one (1) country and has expressed interest in local swapping, we will notify that person to suggest joining the International swap instead. But of course, it is your decision if you want to join or not.
7) We will be posting the book list of our prospective Book Exchange on bookmania.me After the list is posted, books will be on a first-come-first-served system. Participants need to comment in the post that they will be reserving the book that they want.
8) Reservation of books will go on for one (1) week. After the deadline, once all books have been assigned and everything is ready, we will let you know via e-mail ([email protected])! Remember that once you reserve, it will be final.
9) Book Mania will be the one to give the contact of the person in the swap. Beware of spammers. Just be careful always.
10) To make it more fun, please include a simple letter with the book package.
11) For security, all books to be shipped should have a standard tracking number. All local post offices provide a reference number for parcel tracking. The tracking number should be given by the sender to the receiver via email.
First Batch Timeline
Submission of Registration Form - Deadline on February 20, 2015
Posting of Book List for Swap - February 23, 2015
Reservation of Books: February 23-28, 2015
Assigning of Partners: Around March 1-3, 2015
Shipping of Books: Should be within 1-2 weeks once partners are assigned
We’re looking forward to a lot of participants!
Let’s do this! Are you ready to join?

Being In Love
“Have you ever been in love? Horrible isn't it? It makes you so vulnerable. It opens your chest and it opens up your heart and it means that someone can get inside you and mess you up. You build up all these defenses, you build up a whole suit of armor, so that nothing can hurt you, then one stupid person, no different from any other stupid person, wanders into your stupid life...You give them a piece of you. They didn't ask for it. They did something dumb one day, like kiss you or smile at you, and then your life isn't your own anymore. Love takes hostages. It gets inside you. It eats you out and leaves you crying in the darkness, so simple a phrase like 'maybe we should be just friends' turns into a glass splinter working its way into your heart. It hurts. Not just in the imagination. Not just in the mind. It's a soul-hurt, a real gets-inside-you-and-rips-you-apart pain. I hate love.” ― Neil Gaiman, The Sandman, Vol. 9: The Kindly Ones
Margot: [about Richie's suicide attempt] Why'd you do it? Because of me? Richie: Yeah, but it's not your fault.

Being Alone
“It’s only when you’ve lost someone that you realize the nonsense of that phrase “It’s a small world”. It isn’t. It’s a vast, devouring world, especially if you’re alone.”
― Clive Barker, Books of Blood : Volume Two

wait romans painted their marble sculptures
it looks like a cheap theme park ride mascot
yep
here’s a statue of Augustus
and here’s a reproduction of the statue with the colors restored
i honestly think that what we consider the height of sculpture in all of Western civilization being essentially the leftover templates of gaudy pieces of theme park shit to be evidence of the potential merit of found art
"I tried coloring it and then I ruined it"
And you know what the funniest part is? The paint didn’t just wear off over time. A bunch of asshole British historians back in the Victorian era actually went around scrubbing the remaining paint off of Greek and Roman statues - often destroying the fine details of the carving in the process - because the bright colours didn’t fit the dignified image they wished to present of the the cultures they claimed to be heirs to. This process also removed visible evidence of the fact that at least some of the statues thus stripped of paint had originally depicted non-white individuals.
Whenever you look at a Roman statue with a bare marble face, you’re looking at the face of imperialist historical revisionism.
(The missing noses on a lot of Egyptian statues are a similar deal. It’s not that the ancient Egyptians made statues with strangely fragile noses. Many Victorian archaeologists had a habit of chipping the noses off of the statues they brought back, then claiming that they’d found them that way - because with the noses intact, it was too obvious that the statues were meant to depict individuals of black African descent.)
Sorry, I keep reblogging this over and over, the last comment is unbelievable. Wow.
The 18th 19th and early 20th century archaeologists did a lot for us for sure, but they fucked up even more shit.
