I mean I like birds! actual birds! I like to see and learn about them and I’m glad they’re here! but every time a birder comes in and wants to talk to me I know I am going to have a bad time because birders are the meanest haughtiest most persistent motherfuckers in the nature enthusiast infraorder. they are the Terminators of hikers. they come into my life at the crack of dawn and berate me for my failures. they linger and they loiter and they stand staring at me in through the windows before we open, hungry with anticipation. they scoff when I cannot identify the unmistakable sound of a nuthatch cloaca flapping in the wind from the sound of a rosefinch farting in the breeze. they cluster around me also. they whistle. they lie in wait and they squint at the treetops. I wish that they would not assail me in their greed for birdsign.
