possibly randy's biggest opp

I just finished this fic a few days ago and i HAD to draw at least something for it- i swear it's one of the best fics i've read!!!

Anyways here's the alt version

It was after school. She’d run away from everyone, around to the side of the school where she couldn’t be seen. The girl sat with her knees hugged to her chest, her face buried against them. Her shoulders were shaking and quiet whimpers and sniffles could just barely be heard, muffled as her head was pressed against her knees. She should be going home by now, her dad was probably going to start worrying about her. But she didn’t want to move or think about anything right now- maybe it’d be better if she just sank into the ground and never had to talk to anyone again.

Dorrie hated going to school and she hated having to interact with the people there. She hadn’t been outright bullied as of yet, atleast not like in her previous school, but she could tell her classmates thought she was weird. She could tell they didn’t like her. No one wanted to sit next to her at lunch, she could notice people whispering about her as she walked through the halls, she was picked last in gym, in art club after school she even tried to join in on a conversation that two of her peers were having and was harshly ignored. Sure, busting in on someone else’s conversation was a bit rude, but it wasn’t like she was trying to take it over completely- she tried to be polite and was simply excited when she heard the conversation topic was something she liked and wanted to possibly make friends with similar interests. And after art club was over, to top it all off, as she was leaving the school she got her skirt caught on something and ripped it, and she tripped- and everyone saw and laughed at her.

After that Dorrie scrambled upwards and dashed away, the only thought in her mind being that she needed to get away from there. So that led to the present moment, where she was hidden away at the side of the school, crying to herself quietly. To anyone else, this may be an overreaction to an otherwise uneventful day. Sure it sucked that she ruined one of her skirts, and that some jerk classmates laughed at her when she tripped, but it wasn’t a really big deal, was it? To her, it was. All day she had been on edge that something would go horribly wrong because of how terrible her experience at her previous school was. A subconscious part of her brain had conditioned her to expect to be mistreated in a school setting ever since the events of the last school. So Dorrie was just going throughout her day, anxiety heightened, noticing every little thing and misconstruing even the smallest of things to be malicious in nature. So it would only make sense that she’d burst into tears at the end of the day.

“You know, you won’t be able to see the stars with your head facin’ the ground.”

The sudden voice started the girl out of her thoughts as she whipped her head to the side, seeing an older woman sitting next to her. She looked to be somewhere in her 20’s and had a boombox head. Dorrie hadn’t even noticed the woman come up and sit down- well, probably because darkness and tears were clouding her optical sensors this whole time. She stuttered out a reply in a hoarse voice, cringing at how it sounded more than ever. “W-what…? Who are- y-you?”

“I’m Katherine- but that’s not what’s important right now. Who are you?” Katherine said, her posture relaxed as he leaned against the wall.

“W-well- My name is, uhm, Dorrie.” The younger one answered meekly, a stutter still in her voice.

“I didn’t mean your name, but it’s nice to know.” The older one corrected.

“Wuh… What do you mean?” Dorrie sat up a little, wiping her screen. 

Katherine tilted her head a little, the star stickers on her face glittering from the light of the sun. “I mean exactly what I said. Who are you?”

Her confusion over the riddles this stranger was telling her were starting to distract from what was making her cry, atleast. Dorrie sighed a little, placing her head on top of her knees facing forwards this time. “Uh, I’m a student at this school…?”

“Keep going.” Katherine urged in the same gentle yet firm tone her voice started in.

“I… I’m a… child to a single father. I’m someone who’s attending the art club and… I… I’m just a loser. No one here wants to be my friend. I’m a nobody. J… just some weird kid that wishes he could pull off girly clothes. No one buys it- they all think i’m a freak! I saw how they were whispering about me when I walked through the halls… th-they all know what I really am…” She rambled, tears forming at the corners of her screen once again.

The woman was silent for a few seconds as she took the girl’s words in, and after careful thought, then she spoke again. “Is that how you want to be seen?”

“N-no! Of course not I- I just want to be seen as a girl. I wish people would just look at me and assume I was born female, I wish my voice didn’t sound like it does and make people correct themselves in the opposite way I want sometimes! I didn’t hate this body but- people made me resent it. I wish I didn’t. I wish no one cared so I didn’t either.” Dorrie sobbed, rubbing her screen with her sleeve.

“... No one except you should decide who you are. Or how you feel about yourself, for that matter.” Katherine started, voice even. “I don’t know your story- I can only guess based on what you’ve been saying so far. Everything you’ve gone through shouldn’t be invalidated by some advice a random lady like me’s tryna give you- but you shouldn’t take everyone’s opinions and attacks on your character to heart. There will be people in your life trying to break you down for a myriad of reasons, but it’s not their life- it’s yours. They have no say, you shouldn’t let them.” Katherine paused a second, her hand moving to rest over her heart. “Your body is yours, so is your mind. Others may try to chip away at your confidence but there’s one thing that they can never take away- your soul. Keep it guarded. Keep fighting- You’re valuable and beautiful and should never let yourself be poisoned by another’s hurtfulness.”

“B…but…” The younger girl sniffled, her crying fit starting to calm down again from the other’s words. “How? I… I don’t know how to let other people’s opinions and words affect me…”

“Well… That’s not really something I can give you a step-by-step guide on. You’ll have to learn how to love yourself first, and that’s not something I couldn’t really teach you either.” Katherine started, lowering her hand from her chest. She looked up at the sky, continuing “But i’m sure there’s plenty people out there who’ll love you when you can’t. It’s easier to face your demons when there’s someone to do it with you.”

Dorrie stared at Katherine for a second, then up at the sky aswell. “I don’t really have any friends here. I just moved to this town two weeks ago.”

Katherine places her hand on Dorrie’s shoulder, gently. “Well- You got me on your side atleast. If anyone gives you trouble, just let me know. I volunteer here every day after school to help out with cleaning.”

“Oh-... really?” Dorrie’s voice was cautious, but hopeful. She was afraid of getting close with others again, but this time was different enough for her fear to be overweighed by her desire for connection.

The older woman simply nodded, star stickers twinkling. Dorrie could feel a bit of warmth start to well up in her chest- she was still nervous, yes, but maybe she could be happy too. Maybe things will go better this time- She just needed to come out of her shell enough to start putting her trust in others again. “Thank you…” The girl muttered, posture finally starting to relax.

Katherine removed her hand, and got up from the ground. “You should go home now. You have a dad waiting for you, don’t you?”

“Oh- yeah! Shit- uhm-” The girl stumbled upwards, steadying her balance with her arms stretched to her sides. “B-bye, Katherine!” She exclaimed, running off.

“Seeya, kid!” Was heard from the boombox-headed one as she got farther away, until the school disappeared from view and Dorrie was on her way home.
