I’ll keep rebloghing posts like these until we stop shaming poor consumers for not going vegan or whatever and start pressuring COMPANIES with MONEY to start operating more sustainably

also, of the plastic continent in the ocean, 0.025% is plastic straws. A whopping 48% is fishing nets. So maybe we should focus on that.

I’ll even go a step further and say workers should be paid for their commute to work, as well as their commute home, as if they were on the clock.

Where are you from?? I’m from Holland, where every worker gets a compensation for their travel time based on the kilometres they live from their place of work. I thought this was a relatively common thing?

Every time we disillusioned americans try to fantasize about the most off-the-wall crazy amazing benefits we could get from our employers or government, things that would never happen in a million years over here, like free healthcare, free drug treatment, being able to have a baby without losing your job or taking a pay cut, being able to sit down at a retail job, having your boss pay you for your hour drive to work, free ambulances, adequately supporting disabled people, going to college for free… And without FAIL, some European will pipe up and be like, “🤔🤔🤔 uhhhh, isn’t that just… normal? Like, aren’t those things are all just normal things that governments provide for it’s citizens? Because you paid for it through taxation??” And all the americans collectively die of envy and untreated dental infections.

I’m feeling salty about this today since I had to do online training about the importance of clocking in PRECISELY when WORK BEGINS with helpful examples of things you need to have done beforehand/on your own time such as using the bathroom, saying hello to your coworkers, and checking work email. Yes, work email.

Despite what white people of today want to believe, it was NOT that long ago. At all.

The grandchildren of slaves are still alive. There are people alive who remember segregation. Moreover, just because it was “illegal” doesnt mean it stopped. There were people living in basically slavery in the 50s. They didn’t have access to education or the outside world. Many schools didnt even BEGIN to desegregate until the 70s and 80s. All of this is VERY recent history.

Add in that green zone “mass incarceration and the war on drugs” because shit is still going on.
