“...Madness, as you know, is like gravity. All it takes is a little… Push…” Sabbith mouthed, watching her favorite villain get strung up for the third time that day.
Sabbith had been watching the film on almost nonstop repeat since Kitty’s wedding. Since the break up…
Sometimes she’d throw the other two films into the mix to see Scarecrow or Catwoman, but she mostly kept to the second in the trilogy.
It had never been strange for Sabbith to binge watch shows or films, so now one questioned the seemingly obsessive repetition. The constant batman logo on the screen and joker laugh from the speakers was normal.
Expect it wasn’t. Despite everything, despite what he believed, she missed Gabriel. She knew she shouldn’t. Knew it was unfair given she had broken up with him. She couldn’t help it. Couldn’t help missing her constant companion despite knowing she couldn’t be with him. Not right now.
Everything had been so complicated with him. They fought more than they slept it seemed. They did have good moments, but they seemed miniscule by comparison now.
Before Sabbith could stop it there was a dampness trailing down her cheeks. She curled up, resting her head on her knees as she struggled to take a steady breath.
“May I come in?” Sabbith jumped at the sudden voice and tapping at the door. After a moment of silence she heard Warren chuckle lightly. “I know you’re in there. I can here batman playing.”
She quickly wiped her face, pinching her cheeks before Warren let himself in.
“Again? Don’t you ever get sic- What’s wrong?” Warren cut himself on upon seeing the flush of her cheeks.
“Yeah, totally. It’s just so touching when Gordon gets the role as commissioner, you know?” Sabbith smiled weakly at him.
The reaper plopped down beside her, grabbing at some of the sweets that were a near constant in her room.
“You know, for a fox, you’re a really bad liar. What’s wrong?”
“... Please don’t. There is more than enough happening in this family. No one should have to show any concern towards my petty issues.”
“Come on Sabbith. I’m here for you.” Warren said gently, blushing lightly as he rest his hand on hers.
And with that the floodgates opened. Sabbith threw herself against Warren’s chest sobbing and finally letting go of everything she’d tried desperately to keep to herself. Everything she had wanted to tell her best friend, even Spikes had been tempting to talk to. They had both been so busy though. Kitty with her wedding, David’s death and then pregnancy, and she couldn’t bear burdening her with her own nonsense.
So she let it all fall on Warren. Everything she and Gabriel had ever fought about, the promises they made, the lies they told, the good times. Finally admitting to someone other than herself that she regretted breaking up with him, didn’t want to hurt him, but knew she needed it for herself.
Warren listened patiently, stroking her hair as her sobs slowly settled into a light hiccup, and rose again into an almost uncontrollable wail.
Finally, after the movie had been long over and replayed itself again, Sabbith calmed. Her eyes felt heavy, but her chest felt lighter.
“I’m so sorry Warren. You shouldn’t have to deal with this. Thank you though.” Sabbith sniffled, flinching as she caught sight of the mess she’d left on his shirt. “I’m a wreck.”
“You’re beautiful...” Sabbith froze, blushing as the words left his lips, almost a whisper.
“I’m always here for you Sabbith.” He continued, stumbling slightly on his words.
Sabbith wrapped her arms around him once more, burying her head into the nook of his neck.
“Thank you Warren. I don’t know what I’d do without you.” She smiled up at him through damp eyes. Her eyes meeting his gentle, yet mature ones.
Feeling suddenly embarrassed Sabbith’s eyes fell to the floor, blushing.
“You’re the best.” She pecked his cheek lightly, her lips lingering for a moment. She moved to lower her head, but Warren’s hand cupped her cheek holding her eyes to his.
His lips opened, meaning to say something, but unable to find the words.
Slowly their lips met in a mutual and gentle embrace. Pulling away Warren looked down at her sheepishly.
Sabbith cut him off by pressing her lips to his again, knocking him over with the force of her body crashing against his.
Sabbith shot up in her bed at the sound of Kitty’s voice chiming outside the door. The morning sun peaked through her window, the movie still repeating itself.
“Sabbith breakfast is ready! Tako made waffles.” Her best friend rambled on. Sabbith put her hand back down on her bed, jumping slightly as it landed on a familiar warm surface.
“Is Warren with you? His car is outside but I haven’t seen him. He can have waffles too!” Kitty chirped, rattling the doorknob. “Sabbith! Let me in!”
Sabbith threw on her robe and ran to the door, opening it just enough to see Kitty pouting on the other side.
“I’ll be out in just a sec, Kitty.”
“I’ll come in and wait for you!” Kitty cheered, pushing at the door.
“No!” Sabbith squeaked, cheeks flushing. “I need to clean up and shower. I’ll be out in a second and if you eat all the good ones, I’ll eat you!”
She quickly shut the door, cutting off her best friend’s protests. She sighed with relief as Kitty’s voice, complaining to her husband, faded down the hall.
Sabbith turned slowly to face her bed.
“Morning.” A sleepy and barely audible Warren yawned, a sleepy smile on his face.
“Shit...” Sabbith whispered under the noise of her favorite movie.
She covered her eyes, sliding down to the floor as she mouthed the words along with the Joker.
“Madness, as you know, is like Gravity. All it takes is a little… push.”
