You became my new Word of God.
I hung on every sentence you spoke to me
Like I was penning the New Testament,
I was your disciple.
You breathed into me a new life
I thought I wasn’t capable of ever having,
And out of every sinner you could have laid eyes on
And taken interest in,
I both feel eternally grateful and that I don’t deserve it.

or a dip
There are lighter sinners than I.
You have the ones that have stolen maybe once or twice,
You have the ones that have told more than their fair share of lies,
You have the ones that skip church in favor
Of hitting the town.
And yet in spite of every almost-pure soul you could touch,
You laid fingers on mine
With ventricles painted black
And an aorta filled with magic.
Every breath I take,
every pump of my heart
Is an insult to the puritans,
For I am a witch still breathing,
And yet you’ve held it in your hands to kiss it
And have expressed a kindness
I deemed myself too unholy for.

Outside of carnal desire,
Outside of need for flesh,
And more of an aching of the heart?

When I finally took my soul
And let you carefully open it up like an imperfect flower,
Let you make your way into every piece of it
So you could feel my affection
Dribble down your chin like wine?
