Pearl characters are often working in ways that do a service for others. Her roles as pathmaker, cleaning lady, postmaster, fireman, harvest queen, god, and incredibly loyal and protective teammate all fall into this category. And I think that some people can find it easy to construe this in a way that makes her a caretaker to others. And Pearl cares, she cares a lot, but often characterizations that lean too far into these strip her of all her nuance. Augh I don't know it's complicated to explain because she does have a deep loyalty to people and she enjoys helping people and digging into things to fix them and organize them out neatly. But she's not a mother figure and she's not a sister figure. She is your coworker who's gotten really really into scheduling since the last time you saw her and has scheduled out the entire rest of the work schedule for the month. For fun. She is your neighbor who one day knew next to nothing about mechanical engineering and then the next you go outside and she's built an entire mini wind turbine attached to her house that plays a fun song and she tells you with a smile that she got a new hobby. She's smarter then you think and less powerful then you idealize her to be. She is never what you expect and she will always surprise you.
