a/n: thank you so much for all the love on the first two posts!! also, comment down below to be added to the tag list! love u guys
As you sang the last note and Eddie's strumming came to an end, you took a look out at the crowd in front of you, noticing it was bigger than it was when you started. Shouts and clapping begin to fill your ears, bringing a much-needed boost of confidence and happiness. You welcome the praise with open arms, but the past few days with your mother have left you doubting your self-worth and shaming yourself for letting your relationship with her and your grandmother become strained since you "up and left with your father" when you were younger and not "sparing them a second of your time" since you left all those years ago.
You turn and smile back at Eddie, who is smilign brigtly at you, fake bowing to you like you were some sort of princess. You giggle at his antics, stepping forward and giving him a quick hug pressing your face into his chest. Eddie happily reutnrs it, then pulling back to plant a sloppy kiss on your cheek. You let out a shocked sqeual and jokingly push him off of you.
You turn back towards the crowd, scanning it as people begin to chant for one more song. You recenter yourself, grabbing the microphone to insist that it's getting late and you need to head home, but before you can, your eyes stop on a man at the front of the audience, hands clapping enthusiastically.
His hazel eyes stare back into yours, offering you a large smile before bringing his hands towards his mouth to let out a cheerful yell. You blush, bowing your head in a smile. As you look back up at him, you watch as a smaller boy, one who looks too young to be in this bar, walks up to him and wacks him in the chest, seemingly cursing at him. The mystery man's attention is now off of you, seemingly arguing back with the curly-headed boy who hit him. You watch as they share quick words back and forth before the mystery man rolls his eyes and turns them back to you
"Y/n," Eddie's voice breaks you out of your trance, "What do you say? You got it in you for one more song?"
You laugh, turning back to the microphone, "I'll do one more song, but just because Hawkins has a special place in my heart".
More cheers and claps erupt as you turn back towards Eddie, "You mind if I take that?" you say, pointing to his guitar.
He smiles and hands it to you. "Be my guest."
Eddie walks off stage as you adjust the straps to your body, fingers playing with the strings absentmindedly as a quick warm-up.
"Okay," you smile towards the crowd, eyes finding the mystery man again. "I'm going to play a new one for you guys." Cheers abruptly again immediately as you giggle to yourself. "This is something I've been working on for a little while now, and I was supposed to announce it differently, but hey, life works in mysterious ways, doesn't it?"
As you begin to fiddle with the guitar strings, preparing to play a new song, you think back to how you were supposed to announce this song: a pop-up event in New York where you would soon announce an upcoming tour, but with the exit of your entire band, you doubt that was still happening. So, you decide to throw caution to the wind and completely disregard anything your manager and team had planned for you, Hawkins making you crave more control over your life.
You begin playing the opening chords, eyes lifting back up to the crowd, immediately searching for that man's eyes again. You find him, but this time, he's closer, leaning casually against a wooden beam to the side of the stage. He smiles warmly at you, not dropping eye contact as you introduce the song.
"This one is called Sugar Talking".

You smile as you strum the last chord, shouts and clapping immediately finding your ears. You soak in the cheers, not rmeerbing the last time you smiled this hard. The crowd starts cheering your name and you laugh at the absuedty of it.
"Thank you so much, Hawkins. I love you guys," with a final wave, you say your goodbyes to the crowd and walk off stage, Robin immediately embracing you in a hug.
"That was amazing!" She pulls back but keeps her hands on your shoulders, jokingly shaking you as she says, "I think this is the coolest thing to ever happen in this shit town."
You laugh at her, smiling again, "Thank you so much, Robin."
"Thank me?" She laughs in confusion, "Are you kidding me, you're the one who just killed it out there! I should be thanking you!"
You can't help but smile at her warmth, "No, I'm serious, Robin." You grab her hand, "I really needed this."
She squeezes your hand, her smile not falling once. You go to ask her a question when all of a sudden a pair of arms wrap around your waist and lift you in the air, spinning you.
"Holy Shit Y/ln" Eddie drops you back on the ground, spinning you to face him, "I can't believe you just outperformed me on my own guitar!"
You laugh, swatting his arm playfully, "Oh shut up, you played Don't Smile perfectly, probably better than I ever could!"
Eddie laughs, "So, why are you in Hawkins anyway?"
Your smile drops, the reason you're in town, sobering you up. "Um, I-"
"Y/n! Come meet my friends!" Robin interjects, saving you from an awkward conversation.
Eddie seems to have forgotten his question as he guides you further backstage towards Robin and a few other people, his hand on your lower back.
Robin grabs your hand, pulling you closer to her, "Ok, everybody, this is Y/n!" She gestures at you, but your attention is still on her, something about her buxomness being hard to look away from. She continues, "You all probably already knew that, but still!"
You laugh and turn your attention to the small group in front of you, "Hi, guys!" You see a lanky boy with dirty blonde hair and a camera slung around his neck, a girl with curly hair, who you assume is his girlfriend, hanging onto his arm, leaning into him lovingly. Then you see a much younger boy with curly hair, realizing he was the one you saw in the crowd earlier. Finally, your eyes land on the mystery man from the crowd.
He's already looking at you with a smile, sticking his hand out. "Hey, I'm Steve." He grabs your hand and shakes it lightly. "Nice to meet you."
You nod, smiling at him, a little breathless, "Nice to meet you, Steve." His smile widens, hand lingering longer than necessary with yours before dropping it back down to his side, while the other rises to rake through his hair. God, you don't think you've ever seen a man with such gorgeous hair, you're almost jealous.
Before you have the chance to get lost in your ogling, another hand sticks out, "I'm Dustin!"
You take it, returning his smile, "Nice to meet you, Dustin. Aren't you a little young to be in here?"
His smile drops as Steve whacks him on the stomach, "The little shit snuck his way in here when the bouncer was too busy staring, but who can blame him?"
You laugh, shaking your head as heat rises to your cheeks at Steve's underlying compliment while Dustin mumbles a 'whatever' under his breath.
On the other hand, "I'm Nancy," the curly-haired girl says, "And this is Jonathan," she points to the guy she is currently latched onto. Jonathan quickly reaches out his hand, shaking yours after Nancy.
"It's nice to meet you all," you say, your eyes drifting back over to Steve's, only to find him staring at you. Your cheeks heat up again, bowing your head to hide it.
"So, what are your plans for the rest of the night?" Steve asks.
"Oh, I mean, nothing really," you reply, thinking about how you were planning on stumbling home once your mom was passed out, only to fall asleep fully clothed on your bed.
"You wanna hang around with us a little while?" His hands are in his pockets, looking so effortlessly cool you can't help but smile at him. "We can get out of here if you want."
You scrunch your eyebrows in confusion. Is he saying what you think he's saying?
He seems to notice your face, so he clarifies, "Don't want to leave you stranded with the wolves." He nods his head towards the crowd, and your eyes peek around the corner of the makeshift stage to see the large group of people who seem to be going.
"Oh," you laugh at yourself, of course, he wasn't thinking what you were thinking. "Yeah! I think I've reached my meet and greet limit today."
The group laughs at your joke, Robin piping in, "Well, I've gotta stay and help Eddie clean up all his stuff." She sighs, rolling her eyes, "But maybe I could get your number, and we could hang out?"
You smile at her.
She rambles on, "I mean, only if you want to. I don't know how long you'll be in town, but I'd love to get lunch with you or something, if you want to, no pressure whatsoever-"
You laugh, grabbing her phone from her hand, "Robin, of course, I'd love to meet up with you again."
Robin takes a deep breath, nodding as she watches you type your name and number into her phone.
"There!" you say, handing her her phone back, "Text me tomorrow, yeah?"
She smiles, "Yeah, yeah, of course!" She quickly pulls you in for a tight hug before walking away to begin cleaning up with Eddie.
"See you soon, rockstar," Eddie says, waving as he follows after Robin.
"I'm gonna go help them too," Dustin says, brushing past you with a quick wave and 'nice to meet you'.
You turn back to the other, Jonathan and Nancy saying they were going home, praising your performance once again as they disappear into the bar.
"So," Steve says, rocking back and forth on his heels, "Wanna get out of here?"

You were being lowkey, well, you were trying to. Not that anyone in this small bar would come up to you, let alone recognize you. It's Hawkins after all, not much happens here. You were nursing your third drink, a simple tequila soda; you didn't want to have to explain to your mom or grandmother that you had a headache tomorrow morning.
You were hanging in the back, by the bar, watching a band called "Corroded Coffin" perform. They were pretty good; the lead guitarist definitely had talent. You find yourself thinking back to when you played small venues like this, no manager, no band, no team, just you and your guitar with no expectations to live up to. You miss it.
The lead guitarist, whose name you have now learned is Eddie, played the last chord of a song, taking a dramatic bow, then surveying the crowd. You set your basically finished drink down on the bartop, clapping along with the rest of the crowd.
"Thank you, thank you," Eddie smiled, high on adrenaline. "This next one is called 'Love Lost'. It's a new one, we hope you like it." Just like that, Eddie goes back to strumming his guitar, lost in it all.
You find yourself moving forward, closer to the band, your drink long forgotten now. The way the band played, like a well-oiled machine, was mesmerizing, but it did leave you with a tinge of envy. You wish you had a band like that, one where the members could count on each other and truly went well together. You shook that thought away, getting lost in the song again when you felt a hand on your shoulder.
"Hi!" said a girl with short blonde hair and a sick leather jacket. You couldn't tell if she had too much alcohol or if she was simply always this energetic.
You smiled at her, "Hi."
She stuck out her hand, "I'm Robin, nice to meet you."
You hesitantly shook her hand, not understanding why this girl randomly thought to introduce herself to you.
"Y/n," you smiled, "Nice to meet you, too."
"I know-" she said. Your smile immediately dropped, realizing why she came over. "No-I, I mean, yes, I know who you are." Robin looked like she was about to puke, and you desperately wanted to take a step back.
She continued, rambling now, "Shit, I'm sorry. This is so creepy and weird of me, I know."
You gave her a small smile, your fear being chipped away by her bashfulness. You gave a small laugh, "It's okay, don't worry about it."
"Sorry, I just love your music! I mean, your last album literally got me through countless things. I can't even begin to tell you how many times I listened to it." You started back at her, finding humor in her excitement. "I mean, in the car, getting ready, studying-shit, sorry I'm doing that thing where I'm rambling."
You laugh, "No, no, it's okay," you give her a soft smile, "I appreciate it. Really."
She gives you a shy smile, "Sorry, my friends all say I ramble too much, but I mean, I just think I get excited about things."
You laugh, "Hey, if it makes you feel any better, I don't agree with your friends." You give her a shrug, "Being excited about something isn't anything to be ashamed of."
You and Robin begin talking about your night, and you find yourself enjoying her company. She tells you that she knows the guitarist; he's actually one of her best friends. You tell her how talented you think he is, and you see an idea pop into her head.
"You should totally go up there and sing something with him!" She's practically bouncing up and down at this point, "I mean, only if you want to, of course."
You take a look at the stage, then the rest of the bar, thinking.
Robin continues, "I mean, it's Hawkins, so it's totally chill, no pressure at all. You could go up there and do a cartwheel, and people would still love it."
As you contemplate whether or not to give in to Robin, Eddie's eyes drifted across the crowd, landing on you. He did a double-take, making sure he wasn't hallucinating. He does another when he realizes it's Robin you're talking to.
"Fuck it, why not!" You say, the alcohol giving you a boost of confidence.
"Yes!" Robin practically jumps on you, giving you a quick hug. She takes your hand, saying, "Here, come with me, I'll bring you to the back so I can tell Eddie. He's gonna be so excited!"
All doubt you had fades away as you take in Robin's pure excitement, smiling to yourself as she drags you through the crowd by your hand.
You hear the band finish the song. Eddie goes back to the microphone, but before he can get a word out, Robin rushes on stage and whispers in his ear. You watch his eyes widen as he makes eye contact with you, and you give him a shy wave.
"I'll be right back, ladies and gents, don't worry," Eddie says into the mic, Robin then dragging him off stage to you.
"Hi," you give him a smile as he stares at you in shock. "I'm y/n," you stretch out your hand.
He takes it, but instead of shaking it, brings it to his lips, "Eddie."
You laugh, finding his dramatics funny yet endearing.
"Robin said you'd be down to play a song?" Eddie smiles at you, making you feel at ease, "We'd be honored."
"Yeah, if you're up for it."
He barks out a laugh, "Wouldn't pass up on it for the world".
Robin is practically foaming at the mouth at this point, her excitement getting hard to hide.
"I have a song, Don't Smile, do you know it?" you ask.
Robin gasps, turning to Eddie before he speaks, "Do I know it? Robin practically lives, eats, and breathes that song. I think I could play it in my sleep."
You giggle, "You wanna do the guitar? Acoustic?" You begin removing your jacket and placing it on a nearby stool. You're not wearing anything unique, just jeans and a t-shirt, but it's just Hawkins after all.
Eddie smirks, taking a bow, "Your wish is my command."
You look at Robin, wondering if he is always like this. She gives you a look that confirms that.
Eddie quickly runs back on stage, tells his bandmates the plan, then ushers them off stage. They all pass you, giving confused looks that slowly shift to ones of recognition.
Robin looks at you, "This is gonna be so great. You're going to do amazing!" She pulls you in for a hug that makes you laugh just as Eddie begins to speak into the microphone.
"Well, beautiful people of Hawkins, it seems we have a special treat for you all tonight." He glances at you, throwing you a playful smirk. "A very special guest has decided to grace us with her presence, and man is it a beautiful sight."
You shake your head, cheeks turning pink from his compliment. Robin gives you an enthusiastic thumbs-up.
Eddie turns back to the microphone, "Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome Hawkins' very own, Y/n Y/ln!"
You take a deep breath, put on a smile, and sheepishly walk out onto the stage, taking in the small crowd and appreciating how intimate it is. Whispers and gasps soon turn into claps as you go to stand beside Eddie, taking his place in front of the microphone.
"Hey everyone," you smile into the microphone, "I'm really grateful to be here tonight with you all, and especially to Eddie for letting me crash his set." You look at him, giving him a smile that he happily returns.
Eddie moves back to grab his guitar, dragging a stool along with him to sit in. He sits, guitar in hand, waiting for your signal.
"This song is called Don't Smile."
