unfortunately a hockey girl now

I’m disappointed. I’m a lesbian, I’m disabled, I’m Canadian. I was just kinda getting into hockey, really found myself attached to quinn. To see someone who I was really starting to like behave the way he did is just like a blow to the chest.

Logically, I knew that getting into hockey was dangerous. It’s a notoriously conservative sport, the NHL commissioner is a slimy piece of shit, it’s NOT a safe space for people to be politically inclined (liberal). I do think that every man in that room knew that if they chose to say anything, the NHL does not have their back. Personally, I would like to see the NHL disintegrate.

I will say - I guarantee you there’s at least one closeted hockey player in that room who has never felt more unsafe in his entire life. There’s people of colour on that team - the republican social media was picking old videos of the us juniors team to suit their “sparkling white boy” narrative. I do think that down the road at least one of those men will come out and say that locker room felt so unsafe for them that they just had no choice but to exist. But do I think that will be a Hughes brother? Likely not.

I’m just sad. I live in a bubble where almost all the people I know and surround myself with are bleeding heart liberals, and the people who aren’t are unfortunately people from my incredibly conservative upbringing who I’m stuck with. I sometimes forget that men who laugh at women’s sports are real.
