So here I am stuck at work on Halloween and it's made me think about all the Halloweens before this one. Halloween used to be a time when people wanted to dress up as something scary to blend in with the evil spirits that walk the earth at night on October 31st or at least I'm pretty sure that's how this holiday came about. I could be totally wrong but whatever. Now it's a day where everyone gets to dress up, get drunk, watch scary movies, hand out candy, and wear the least amount of clothing possible. The last one is not for me though. I'm not going to lie and say I haven't had my share of "sexy" costumes but compared to some of the costumes I've seen mine would have been considered conservative. I personally wanted to be practical this Halloween and buy a costume would potentially be able to get more than one use out of. That didn't used to be a concern of mine until I realize how expensive Halloween gets but don't get me started on that one. You end up spending at least $50 on some horribly made costume that barely even lasts till the end of the night. I was walking through the "mall" if you can call the Time Warner Center that and I saw three girls who must have been like 14 years old wearing incredibly skimpy shorts and tank tops with different super hero logos on them along with knee socks and converse shoes. I don't know if its just I'm just getting older but I was thinking that these girls left their houses without their clothes because what they were wearing is basically underwear. Now that to me is way scarier than zombies or werewolves or vampires. This is one of the many reasons I don't think I will be procreating. This is also the first year in a while that I have been "single" on Halloween so it may seem odd to some people that I didn't decide to "slut it up" this year. I guess I've gotten to the point where I don't want to contract pneumonia by freezing my butt off in a barely there costume in the hopes it will land me free drinks. I'm not judging if you did decide to do that. My costume looks a lot like normal clothes to most people so if someone comes up to me and actually knows what I am then that is someone that I definitely would want to talk to. Also going as something uncommon also gets you out of the awkward situation that inevitably ensues when you find someone else that has the exact same costume is yours. Then the two of you can have your own little "Who wore it best".
