Hi idc how many times this has been said or how "woke" it is
COVID did irreparable damage to a lot of people and I'm also pretty sure a lot of people are getting misdiagnosed due to lingering COVID symptoms
I think it's important to acknowledge that it did actually fuck alot of society up
I got covid in like 2023/2022 and now I have freaking narcolepsy. Apparently if you get a severe enough sickness it fucks you up heavy

No this is exactly what the post was about. It does irreparable damage and it's super important to acknowledge. Thank you for saying this
COVID is the reason we are a wheelchair user.
Not really in a mental or emotional state to talk about it rn - it's been a day
But COVID is serious business.

And COVID is still doing damage to people because it's still spreading unchecked year-round; no, it's not always spreading at the same level year-round, but even when the reports say the levels are low (which is mostly from wastewater data and that is being drastically cut in the US, so we'll be even more in the dark about the spread of it and multiple other infectious diseases), there's still a risk of catching and spreading it. Low risk doesn't mean no risk and it's still too much risk for me personally, as someone who suspects I have long COVID on top of the disabilities I already had, who doesn't want to risk getting it or other infectious diseases, and who doesn't want to risk spreading infectious diseases to others.
People are still getting infected, becoming disabled, and dying from both the acute infection and from the cumulative damage caused by getting COVID repeatedly. Even one infection is enough to cause lasting damage, to disable someone, and to kill someone in the acute phase or from the long-term damage. And I will die pissed that instead of us uniting as a species to get it under control and help all of us, the powers that be turned it into a political debate and misled the public about the realities of COVID and repeatedly threw the most vulnerable amongst us (chronically ill and disabled people, those who are immunocompromised, and the elderly, as well as children who now have long COVID as one of if not the most common chronic illness now) under the bus in an ill-fated attempt to pretend COVID is over and we can just go back to our pre-COVID lives.
I've been wondering how many people would actually take precautions and take them seriously if they really understood the risk, but yet again, late last year there was a conference about needing more research and funding for long COVID and supposedly only one person, a patient with long COVID there to talk about their experiences with it, was masked. Even the so-called experts on long COVID couldn't be assed to mask, despite the only way we know to prevent long COVID being to prevent COVID infections. Despite there being no cure and no specific treatments for long COVID. If you're lucky to find a healthcare provider who believes in and knows about long COVID and tries to help, the best they can do is try to treat the symptoms. And long COVID has 200+ possible symptoms because COVID and thus long COVID impacts every part of the body.
Additionally, the estimates for both COVID infections (currently and in the past) and long COVID are underestimated, especially because so many people have been infected by COVID and often multiple times but not enough people are aware of long COVID and what it can look like to even think that their new or worsened symptoms post infection could be due to long COVID. On top of that, so many healthcare providers don't know about it or don't understand enough or don't believe it's real, so even if you can access healthcare and try to get answers, there's a decent chance long COVID would either be dismissed as a possibility or not even be considered.
If you've had or suspect you've had at least one COVID infection (and it doesn't matter if it was asymptomatic, mild, or put you in the hospital, you're still at risk of developing long COVID), and especially if you then developed new or worsened chronic symptoms, please look into it and if you can, try to find a healthcare provider who understands long COVID.
I can advocate for this
I've had family members that had seemingly mild covid and still end up with a lot of issues later on because of long COVID. I'm pretty sure because of the lack of awareness of long COVID they've also been misdiagnosed with other things so the medication they're taking doesn't even treat them properly and worsens symptoms to the point said family members keep getting on and off those meds.
Also I feel like long COVID won't be publicly recognized anytime soon because of how it's a long term thing which also sorta pisses me off
or maybe it's not getting recognized on purpose because of how our media works
Either way it's horrible and people don't actually know how detrimental COVID is
I agree and it infuriates me. No one is immune from it, no one is not at risk but the vast majority of people don't know or don't understand or don't care to and it didn't have to be that way.
Oh yeah I forgot to say this our media divides us on purpose, it sounds like a stretch but there's evidence of the government asking to post specific pieces of news at specific times to cause more uhhh ?? Divide??? I was in a government class that talked specifically about this so it's also important to acknowledge that our general media is NEVER gonna cover over long COVID and give us a concrete answer

America has a weird relationship with cults where they’re terrified of small cults (or organizations they think are cults) but completely normalized massive cults that hurt many more people (eg: LDS Church, Jehovah’s Witnesses, the Amish, Scientology, most Megachurches)
To anybody asking if the Amish are a cult, the answer is yes, very much so.
They’re a high control group that isolate you from society. The cult decides how you dress, how you behave, who you marry and how. They control what you know, blocking all information from the outside world. They control how you feel and what you’re allowed to think with threats of both social and supernatural harm. They’re a cult.
The best method to determine if a group is a cult, in my opinion, is Steven Hassan’s (cult expert and former cult member himself) BITE model.
BITE stands for Behavior Control, Information Control, Thought Control, and Emotional Control.
The more points a group “scores” on the model, the more of a cult it is.
I think this model is the best one for several reasons:
It’s more nuanced than “cult” or “not cult” and doesn’t make false equivalences between groups
It’s versatile, applying to groups big and small, and cults of all kinds, religious, political, financial, etc.
It focuses on what’s important, which is what the cult does to its members, and those members’ experiences, and not on irrelevant details like how uncommon their doctrines are or whether they have a charismatic leader
This is a great example of Thought Control used by cults whenever they’re confronted with criticism.
#you might notice that there are a lot of similarities between cult techniques and those of abusive partners#and that is an important thing to be aware of
yah that goes in the post
The creator of the BITE Model considers abusive relationships to be two-person cults.
It’s important to note that almost every sect of evangelical christianity in the US today fails the BITE Model.
This was the post that lead to breaking my JW mindset. Been a while since I seen it.
I’m glad I could help in your deconstruction, if only a little bit. I wish you all the luck in your journey moving forward.
It’s tricky with parenting, because parents have to control their children’s lives to start with, since newborns are incapable of taking care of themselves.
A healthy parent will gradually relinquish control as their child grows and becomes more capable. And even while they’re in charge, they will treat their child with honesty and transparency and respect. They’ll prepare their child for independence, giving them the tools they need to live their own life.
A culty, abusive parent will go far beyond the level of control that their role requires. They will use manipulation and undue influence, taking advantage of their child’s naivete and malleable mind for the parent’s own benefit and agenda. They will continue to exercise this control well into their child’s adulthood, possibly their whole life.
