Paul (to be clear the smartest of the House Atreides male line, a mentat with most of the Kwisatz Haderach stuff set to go in his genes) could have made it off-planet with smugglers and gone to the Landsraad with the head of a Sardaukar trooper, instead he went the whole plot of the rest of Dune (definitely cooler but...smarter?). He also knew his path in Dune would lead to a massive holy war, billions dead in his name. And still figured, eh, I get to be emperor and maybe, maybe lead humanity towards the Golden Path, all while not banging Irulan.
