I honestly hate the “Suicide is never the answer” movement
Every single person behind this movement has either never faced the level of adversity it takes to drive someone to that point, or their solution was so readily available to them that they never experienced it long enough.
Have literally ANY of the people behind this notion ever been homeless or on the brink of homelessness? Experienced irreversible and everlasting physical pain? Been hurled to the point of losing everything and faced the possibility of dying in the cold street?
This movement stems from a serious lack of empathy and an extremely narrow and self-centered view of adversity. Just because your problems were eventually solved does not mean others’ problems can be solved the same way.
How about instead of going around preaching that suicide is never the answer, you put some effort into actually helping? Do you seriously think telling someone with a razor to their wrist “It’ll get better,” taking their means of escape, then walking away is somehow helpful?
That is akin to giving a homeless man $10 and then walking away feeling better about yourself. That $10 in effect did more for you than it ever possibly could for him.
This movement is born of the selfish need to stroke your own egos and make yourself feel better for “saving a life”. If all you did was prevent a suicide that day then walked away, all you did was prolong someone’s suffering to make yourself feel fucking better.
Either seriously help someone escape the situation they’re in, or give them the means to peacefully and painlessly end their own life.
In other words, either do something or get the fuck out of the way.
