Sam looked over at Gabriel, who was lying there. He had fallen asleep an hour or so ago, too wounded and weak to stay awake. Sam was worried for the archangel. He wanted him to wake up, because he needed him, and he meant it when he said it to Gabriel before.

He tried to convince Dean they both had to make him stay. Because of Gabriel's grace and his powers, obviously – he would be useful. But Sam made sure not to say anything about Gabriel making his heart pound harder in his chest, and how the younger hunter wanted to have Gabriel around for more.

Suddenly, Gabriel woke up and looked around, his eyes darting to the walls of the room, then the hunters – he looked disoriented, like a trapped animal scared of his surroundings.

Sam instantly looked up and moved his hand to the side. His throat bobbed as he swallowed the worry down upon seeing the archangel awake.

Finally.

Despite looking wounded and hurt, Gabriel now looked strangely... human. An there was something about it that made Sam feel worried even more.
