I had a thought about Val Kilmer referring to Ice as gay in 2005 but then suddenly Ice has a wife in Top Gun Maverick.

Sarah isn't his wife but his sister, like the fandom likes to agree.

Here is where my headcanon comes in.

Since there is obviously no IceMav (much to our misery) I imagine Ice had a husband he met somepoint between Top Gun and Top Gun Maverick. In or out of the Navy, you decide. Either way because of DADT they keep it pretty quiet and once it's repealed they get married etc hence the wedding band in his picture. However some time between getting married and Top Gun Maverick said mystery husband dies leaving Ice a widow and Sarah to care for her brother during his cancer. Then we're into Top Gun Maverick.

So what do we think of this canon complaint Ice is gay idea?
