Need a place to vent my frustrations about physicality, coming from a newly fan of a basketball team
Sports can have physicality, but it gets to a point where athletes are at risk for some really concerning health risks.
I hate how often it is for people to want to push and pressure their favorite athletes to continue on when they got injured. They deserve to heal and take time to themselves so they function at their best. It's not inspiring to push through pain because its going to lead to their bodies to be more susceptible to injuries and health risks.
Mainly coming from the men center teams like basketball, it basically feels like the mentality of 'Men need to walk it off, and if you don't, your weak if otherwise'. The mentality that people don't deserve breaks and be able to focus on themselves is a sad mentality to have.
And its also terrible thing when refs don't call it out. Because why are we allowing athletes to be so hands on and literally manhandled with no consequences. Why in a non wrestling sport am I seeing men constantly shoved,pushed,and thrown to the ground?
Sports should always be and should've been clean. It never is fun or was funny back in the day to see grown people shoved and attacked. I really don't want to see an athlete bleed, break something, tear something, face immense discomfort. And then fear they'll let their teams and/or fans down because god forbid they take time off. Ya'll these athletes are not statics, they're not numbers, they're just people who happen to be athletes.
