Book Review:
The Score was definitely a mixed experience for me.
The beginning felt really messy, especially compared to the earlier books in the series. Dean came off as a huge ego-driven player and a lot of the early moments especially his comments just made me cringe. It felt very physical at first and I wasn’t fully sold on the connection.
That being said, I did start to enjoy it more when Dean and Allie actually spent time together outside of sex. Their quieter moments like talking, bonding, and just being around each other were when they felt the most real to me. That’s when I started to see their chemistry more.
Oh Dean, for me was very hit or miss. I only really liked him when he showed his softer side when he was comforting Allie or being genuinely caring. Outside of that his ego and behavior were hard to ignore.
The turning point that really stood out was when he missed Allie’s show while grieving his friend. I understand people handle grief differently but that moment was frustrating and I honestly agreed with Allie breaking up with him. It felt justified. That situation made the story feel more bittersweet and while Dean does have sweet moments, they didn’t always feel consistent enough for me.
Overall, this book had its cute moments but it didn’t fully win me over. I liked parts of it, especially when the relationship felt more emotional but it was a bit too back-and-forth for me to love completely.
