Frowning a bit at the girls words, Cale let out a grunt of agreement. “It’s not the… best of things, no.” Glancing down o the remainder of the walkers head and body, his hand tightened at his sides. It was a creature like this that his father had turned in to. A creature like this that had forced his mother to commit an unspeakable act against the man she loved. Regardless of who the walker had been, Cale only focused on the past facts. It was the only thing that got him through the day, got him through eliminating a walker if it posed a threat.
He tore his eyes away from the corpse when the other girl said his name. It had been so long since he’d heard someone talk that it startled him to hear a voice that didn’t sound like his own. Still, she seemed to mumble it, like she was tasting it or something and he’d be a fool to deny that he liked the way she talked. Studying her as she introduced her own name, he wondered distantly if it stood for Samantha. Regardless, it suited her, for some reason he couldn’t place. It just fit.
"It’s, erm, nice to meet you," he glanced to her hands which were still covered in blood and frowned slightly. "I would offer to shake your hand but… you should probably get that stuff off of ‘em sooner rather than later." Taking a step backwards and turning his attention to the treeline, he figured it couldn’t hurt to team up with someone. He knew he’d probably go crazy if he spent much longer by himself. Though he’d have to be careful. People these days were almost more dangerous than the walkers. "There’s an abandoned town not to far ahead. We might be able to find some water and clean clothes. If it hasn’t been ransacked already." Pausing, he turned back to the girl. "If you want to come with, that is."
"Oh...right," Samantha replied, lifting her hands up so that her palms faced the open sky above them. Dark blood covered her from the tips of her nails to the base of wrists, trailing down her arms. She felt sickly. Holding her hands up in a shrug, Samantha frowned. Her sword was sheathed, its hilt sporting a matching handprint of reddish-brown muck. "It's the thought that counts, right?" She added, giving the boy a shy smile. At this point, Samantha would have done anything to get the blood off her hands -- anything -- but was it safe? For all she knew, the boy could have been charming her way to the nearest town just to kill her and take her things. It'd be a mistake, of course, since she wasn't very well off, but still. She didn't want to die.
"Uhm..." He could easily overpower her. If he was merciful, he'd use the gun. If not, she'd be dead with a machete wound drawn right through her. Maybe she'd get lucky, get a chance to run away and keep running; she was good at that -- she ran away from everything nowadays. It was a wonder she was so good at futbol. But she craved companionship. She hadn't seen a person alive and well for a long while, and he seemed nice enough so far. "It's not too far ahead, yeah?"
Samantha's heart didn't feel heavy as she followed him towards the town, something that always seemed to be there in the back of her head whenever she made the wrong decision. But it wasn't, and so she continued to walk next to him. Her hand stayed near the hilt of the sword, more out of habit than anything but even she had to admit it was nice having someone next to her. "So...Cale? Cale. Are you from...around here?" The words left her mouth before she could really stop them, and her cheeks flushed from embarrassment. She hated the silence, and needed a conversation starter.
