Access Magic: Eldritch Moon, with Jimmy Wong, Jeremy Jarvis and Jenna Helland discuss the art and story line behing the new set.  Emrakul is a ‘warper of biology’ where the infected ‘bloom’ into Eldrazi.

Five levels of awful were set to described the progression of Eldrazi mutation - • Distorted • Disfigured (Shadows of Innistrad) • Deformed • Mishapen • Monstrous (Eldritch Moon - example 'Fibrous Entangler’)

Ken Nagle, the lead for this set’s initial concept and desgin team had been pushing for a mechanic similar to 'Meld’ since New Phyrexia.  Concept art provided by Sam Burley.  Concept of 'Meld’ provided Vincent Procee.

Mutations frequently occur in the form of Emrakul’s signature lattice motif, which have become prominent in Eldritch Moon.  These and other mutations often implement her bizarre colouration as well.  Tentacles extend from the 'infected’ mutation.
