The idea that the upper class have monopolized the promise of civilization is one of the most ahistorical things I've ever heard. This is how civilizations function. I would also argue that the promise of civilization isn't leisure; it's probably something closer to "the prompt payment of taxes and other forms of tribute from conquered peoples to the empire."

Oh man, good question... Nagayo for sure. The hair match, or hair public execution, is just so high up there.

Megumi Kudo... I haven't watched a lot of her yet so I'd have to say the Combat Toyoda match like a pleb. She's so so so beautiful it's not fair.

(I don't want to neglect modern women's wrestling but all performances that stood out to me recently were heels... or the "I slap the shit out of you" kind of babyfaces like Willow which are also babyfaces of course... but, idk, for some reason you got me thinking about the ones who suffer).

I think when Cena gets butchered like an ox it's very compelling too. The JBL "I quit" match in particular, the look on his face at the end when he's standing in the ring, beautiful. And, I do think he's utterly charming when the crowd is hostile towards him.

Punk as a babyface at the end of ROH suffers really well too. The Jimmy Rave feud, the way he dies in the dog collar match and his glorious victory in the cage match, makes me feel alive haha... I also really, really love the babyface performance he puts on against Austin Aries.

Oh, how could I forget Nigel... I'd have to go back and check in which matches against Bryan he's nominally the heel and which the babyface but I have to say, he's always my babyface and Bryan's always a cunt. Probably ROH Driven 2007 with the awful ringpost spot? And not to forget the Austin Aries match with the awful barrier botch.
