There's this one well known russian book called "12 chairs" written by a duo of writers Ilf and Petrov, story takes place in 1920s soviet Russia. It's about a witty charlatan burglar who teams up and sort of adopts this much older man in order to find treasure in one of the mentioned chairs (it was hidden, there to save it from communists who were confiscating any monetary possessions from the aristocracy after the revolution). They basically end up developing a very codependent and sort of homo erotic partnership which doesn't end very well for both of them. It's an incredible comedy with a pinch of tragedy
