i will defend that fictional teenage girl with my life. i literally don’t even care what she did. you would’ve done it too if you were her she’s probably handling things better than you would in her shoes

it’s crazy because i think a lot of times in fandom people declare that [x important female character] is a lesbian and make up a wlw relationship to throw her into with a background character or someone who she has no chemistry with and they’ll reblog two cute pieces of ship art and say “let’s go lesbians!!!!!” in the tags and then completely forget about her . she’s a lesbian just so she won’t interfere with anything . and now they have an excuse to ignore her for male characters or their favorite male x male ships under the guise of being progressive and giving “representation” to dykes. or something like that.

and if you complain about this you are an ungrateful bitch who is not happy with what she has been given . and you should let people do what they want and cultivate their fandom experience and it’s “queer rep” anyway so why are you complaining

and people will recognize this disparity and say “well maybe if they wrote female characters better i would care about them . so really i don’t have to do anything it’s all the creators fault” and then pat themselves on the back for being such good feminists but the truth is even if there was the best written female character in the fucking world she would still be minimized and ignored . so

you can call as many female characters as you like mother or mommy or girlboss or say they slay or that you want them to step on you and it will never be a substitute for actually caring about female characters and women centered stories .

and sapphic women will squabble and argue and cancel eachother over one female character in a sea of male characters and about whether she’s lesbian or bisexual and who’s lesbophobic and if she’s good representation and for which group is she representing and whether she should date a man or a women while a million m/m ships dominate every fandom space ever and we are left with the female characters that everyone wants to fucking ignore and shove to the side. the friend group moms and the mean lesbians . we are fighting over dregs no one gives a fuck about. does that kind of representation even matter? or do anything for anyone? sort of sick of it!

it’s been so long tbh and i can’t remember if that’s something they criticized for. i know they were really upset about her ~wanting to colonize~ other countries but i don’t think that had to do with freeing slaves specifically. one thing though is that a lot of aelin antis are usually also daenerys targaryen antis and dany antis constantly being up the “economic consequences of abolishing slavery” and general “slavery is part of their culture!!!” arguments so :/
