Langdon did not just simply waltz in with no consequence, like are we not all watching the same show. he was in active addiction and lost his job for a while, the trust of his mentor, likely had major family issues, is broke, has to repeat a year, had to humble himself enough to go to rehab and deal with his demons, has to come back to a place where everyone knows what happened and now claw his way back into his mentors good graces and prove himself capable. A lot of people really want punitive measures for him so that they can feel good about watching someone who was addicted to a substance do things that people with an addiction often do, which is steal, lash out, and ruin their relationships with the people around them. And now I guess he has to be demonized forever and simply seen as the big evil man. That's not what restorative justice is. it's not what rehabiliation looks like.
