Well, see you, friends
https://www.404media.co/tumblr-and-wordpress-to-sell-users-data-to-train-ai-tools/
Internal documents obtained by 404 Media show that Tumblr staff compiled users' data as part of a deal with Midjourney and OpenAI.
Don't go after staff members because of this, for what I know they weren't even informed until later in the process. You know who this comes from.
this is a drastic betrayal of user trust
That's an understatement. It's treason, and they know it. The fact they haven't announced it, that even within the company this had been handled mostly in secret? Bad people doing bad things
π¨π¨TUMBLR WILL BE SELLING DATA FROM OUR BLOGS TO TRAIN AI!!! π¨π¨
That means ARTISTS, WRITERS, ANY CREATIVES ON HERE! YES YOU TOO FANFICTION WRITERS!!! Tumblr is making a deal with Midjourney to sell your work to train their AI!!
About Willi Smith
Willi Smith was considered one of the most successful African-American designers in the fashion industry at the time of his death in 1987, and the inventor of streetwear. His label that launched in 1976, WilliWear Limited, grossed over $25 million in sales by 1986 according to The Guardian. Inspired by the fashion he saw on the streets and also his desire to shape it,Β Smithβs accessibility and affordability of clothing helped democratize fashion.
Born in 1948, Willi Donnell Smith grew up in Philadelphia with an ironworker father and a mother skilled in the creative arts. βI was Mr. Bookworm. I was the artistic child no one understood. But my parents supported me. If I was doing a little drawing, my father didnβt say, βWhy donβt you play baseball?β... The family sometimes used to say there were more clothes in the house than food.β After his parents divorced, Smithβs grandmother, Gladys βNanaβ Bush, stepped in to nurture him, a role she played throughout his life.
Smith studied commercial art at Mastbaum Technical High School and fashion illustration at the Philadelphia Museum College of Art. He found himself bored by the limits of illustration, always βchanging the design of the dress [he] was supposed to be illustrating.β Through the connections of a family for whom she cleaned, Bush organized an internship for Smith with venerated couturier Arnold Scaasi. At Scaasi, Smith assisted in creating fashions for clientele like Brooke Astor and Elizabeth Taylor, learning form, fit, embroidery, and the power wielded by access to a certain type of dressβa crash course in elite levels of fashion and the clothes he didnβt want to make
His label, Williwear, was ahead of its time: mixing the relaxed fit of sportswear with high-end elements of tailoring. His clothes were not meant to be untouchable, catwalk-only designs. Although the term βstreetwearβ has been much chewed over recently, Smithβs more elastic definition of the term (bringing urban culture to the catwalk) has been incredibly influential.
His clothes were meant for everybody. He said: βFashion is a people thing and designers should remember that. Models pose in clothes. People live in them.β Though he was inspired by New York City, he wanted people everywhere to appreciate the culture and inspiration of the city. βBeing black has a lot to do with my being a good designer,β he said. βMost of these designers who have to run to Paris for colour and fabric combinations should go to church on Sunday in Harlem. Itβs all right there.β
Watching the way some men are having a Very Normal Reaction to the term "pavement princess" is hilarious to me. I saw one guy make a tiktok where he showed his truck said "see, I put OFROADER stickers in three places and I went in this gravel road! It's not a pavement princess!"
Pavement Princess is the name for a jacked up super truck, you know the ones, that really mostly only exist in suburban areas with custom paint jobs and the brightest LEDs you can buy on the market and pickup beds smaller than a Honda Acty. They're gas guzzling, road destroying, pedestrian killing, ego-boosting machines.
And yes, the Cybertruck is absolutely a Pavement Princess.
Like, damn, maybe we finally do have a slur for cishet white men.

learning lately that a lot of confidence is about owning up. like "yeah i'm a little addicted to my phone right now" or "yeah i'm not really over this person yet" or "yeah i still get pretty anxious in crowds" just saying anything at all but then following it up w "but i'm trying to get better" and being super nonchalant and unaffected. so powerful. you would literally be undefeatable in the face of even the most judgmental person. no one can judge you for things you already know about yourself and are trying to improve on. the trick is to know yourself from the inside out, to hold yourself accountable, and to actively improve every day. like that is literally the secret to never feeling like you're at the mercy of somebody else's judgment
it's like if you were talking to a friend and they went "you're too sensitive" and then your whole day is ruined because you're like?? no i'm not??? and then you get defensive and start questioning something you never knew about yourself, bc you never dug that deep into your identity. i've been there. but now i'm trying to not only confront the ugliest parts of me, but also own up to them instead of concealing myself and trying to be something i'm not. it's completely fine to not be perfect but to try to be the best you could possibly be. everyone who claims perfection is lying. just own up to ur shit
