Setsuna F. Seiei

Can I just talk about Setsuna F. Seiei for a moment, and how much I love him? He lets two separate people point guns at, and threaten to shoot him. He tells Neil that he’d let him shoot him because “I know you’d [eradicate war] in my place,” but when Saji demands he ‘say something’ regarding Louise and Kinue, Setsuna just stares at him. I like to think he’s thinking ‘Saji doesn’t have the balls to shoot,’ but that he’s ready to take the bullet should Saji fire. He let Saji take his own gun and point it at him, for fuck’s sake. He’s obviously comfortable with either outcome. In both instances he was NOT involved in the matters at hand, and only very distantly connected to them. Neither Neil nor Saji would be justified in killing him, but they both think it would make them feel better, and so he lets them. He’s ready to die for them, or by their hand. Setsuna’s not at peace with anything he’s done in his life; he knows he’s done awful, horrible things, but he’s confident in the fact that he’s doing the best he can to better the world the only way he knows how (as a Gundam), and that he’s moving forward according to his own decisions. I love both of these scenes so much, but especially the one with Saji. I was literally yelling you have no right to shoot him you asshole at the tv when he confronted Setsuna. He’s a useless git most of the time, but there are a few instances where I like Saji, even if I hate what he’s doing. (Neil on the other hand, was perfection. *gross sobbing*)

Though he was trying hard to hide it, Neil was better at reading Setsuna than anyone else on the ship. Which, of course, was not saying much considering the young man wasn’t entirely open to begin with, let alone easy to read, but Neil could tell from the tension in his shoulders and the way he dipped his head as he turned to leave that Setsuna was upset. Not only that, but he was wary of his fellow meister after the scene on the surface.

Neil sighed and took a step forward, hoping to nip this in the bud before any more misunderstandings came up. “Setsuna, listen… I’m sorry about what happened back there. We all got out of hand…” That was an understatement. Neil had lost his cool to the point that he had nearly struck Tieria out of anger. All they were missing was Allelujah’s alter coming out to make some crude remark and it would have been a four ring circus. The words that were exchanged down there were hurtful, yet it felt like getting them out in the open was somehow necessary for the four of them to understand eachother better.

Or ruin their progress entirely. What good was a strike team set on uniting the world when their pilots couldn’t even get along?

Setsuna suppressed a shiver as he forced himself to look at Lockon, really look at him. “It didn’t feel that way…” He whispered, voice even despite the tremors in his hands. It was hitting him now, all of those emotions, those harsh words, it was all coming to him now. He’d been able to push it to the side in the heat of the moment, but now that his mind had time to process everything he was realizing just what he’d been in. Danger, life flashing before his eyes, fight or flight FIGHT-

His hands came up to cover his mouth to stop the strangled whimper from leaving his lips, eyes sliding shut. He’d let his mind get away from him and twist a noose around his throat. Lockon was angry with him, or was he? Would he apologize if he was still angry? It was too much…
