little artist tips
I went to talk to a man today and he told me some really good tips on how to improve and get better
look up artists and try out their styles and/or techniques
be adventurous w your work
go to art galleries, youâll be inspired
look up videos on youtubeÂ
sketch and doodle a whole bunchÂ
be patientÂ
find a happy medium of what you want and what someone else wants (if commissioning)Â
do studies of thingsÂ
donât try and be a perfectionist w your workÂ
draw a lot from life
take risksÂ
take the advice of others, but donât let it offend you
practice! practice!! practice!!!
Pink backgrounds suit him.
Hazah I finally finished my entry for @petitepasserine and @nicholael  âs Meldrassil contest~ Their name is Eve, a Celendir in search of god through the old religion and lore (particularly that of anceint Greece and Rome).Their mask is made from the roots of Olive and Rowan.
How to treat artist: on tumblr
donât rush them to draw something. if you want something drawn fast, do it yourself.
donât like their style? whatever, itâs your opinion. but donât tell them its bad!
if you like something they drew, then TELL THEM! PRAISE THEIR WORK! artist need every bit of motivation.
constructive criticism is always good, but donât flat out tell them they suck.
everyone has their own style. if they draw a certain character a bit different than you want it to look, then thatâs ok. donât like it, again, DRAW IT YOURSELF
if they are asking for payment for request or commissions, DONâT COMPLAIN!! artist need money just like everyone else, and art supplies are very expensive!
if they try a new art style DONâT TELL THEM THEY SHOULD JUST STICK WITH WHATÂ âTHERE GOOD ATâ thatâs just plain rude. period.
donât hate an artist just because they only draw one thing, or draw all kinds of things. unless your paying them real hard CASH to draw for you, then you donât have a say on what they are doing. actuallyâŚ
UNLESS YOU PAY THEM, YOU CANT TELL THEM WHAT TO DO AT ALL. PERIOD. END OF STORY.
TREAT THEM LIKE HUMANS. NOT MACHINES. they need to eat, sleep, and mess around just like everyone else. give them a break.
ART IS ART, WRITING, DRAWING, PAINTING, ITâS ALL ART! Donât tell someone writing isnât art, or singing, or painting, ITâS ALL A FORM OF ART!!
artist are consistently improving. just because they might not be all that great now, does not mean they wont improve! stick by them, encourage them, no matter what!
EVERYONE HAS THAT ONE WORK. every artist has that one piece of art that sucks, alright? EVERYONE. so, donât judge an artist just by their one work of art that isnât as good as the rest. we all mess up.
and lastly, JUST TREAT THEM LIKE HUMANS, OK???????
reblog this so others can see, how to treat artist.

2015 vs 2012 Where did the moe go~
Nearly ancient art trade with Nime. Super sorry it took so long ;;u;;;Â
the more artist friends i make the more i realize that no artist really truly knows what theyâre doing, and if you see them do something cool in their art itâs probably the result of screaming and crying at said piece for no less than an hour.
I saw that ask about a teacher who said that there's no value in realism, and I'd like to know where the hell that sentiment came from? I'm not an artist but personally, realism seems to be one of the most beautiful and technically difficult styles to create. And the Renaissance was praised for its venture INTO realism, right? What do you think has caused this strange shift into this hatred from realism?
Okay itâs like 9am and Iâm not really awake but I think there are a few different things going on.
For one thing, people donât like to feel theyâve been made a fool of. Realism elicits that reaction sometimes because itâs seen as kind of a magic trick. âI thought it was a photo!â = âHaha you fooled me!â
Also, people donât like to be reminded of their insecurities. If someone works hard, and you donât, and they succeed, their success reminds you that you didnât work as hard. âThis isnât real art because I donât want to feel bad about myself.â
But thereâs also gatekeeping going on in general? Thatâs a little more complicated, but I think thatâs where you get teachers teling kids a bunch of bullshit. Gatekeeping is way more institutionalized because it preserves something bigger than just art.
Elitism in the art world is reinforced a bunch of waysâby museums, by textbooks, by art schools, by critics, by race, by gender. We go to the Louvre trusting that someone who knows better than us what art is supposed to be has picked out the best stuff. For all that art is supposed to challenge us, it must jump through a lot of hoops before itâs allowed to do that.
Lots of things can break down that elitism. An artist who is self-taught, street artists, women artists, art that isnât in a museum, art intended for a lay audience, fanart, new art that hasnât been vetted, art made by people who arenât loyal to the art canon, art on the internet, art made with new technologyâbasically anything that makes art more accessible to the âwrongâ people or allows the wrong people to define it.
Art challenges the established systems of power we have, and it just so happens that the established systems we have are very white, very imperialistic, and very patriarchal. And the terrible terrible irony is that this same system that art is meant to challenge is also what validates it and allows it to be seen. You can paint whatever you want, but only a gatekeeper can let it pass.
So when you encounter someone who says things like âWhatâs the point?â or âI could have done thatâ or a teacher who says, âThatâs not real artâ or any kind of gatekeeping, what youâre actually encountering is that bigger system.
So if you challenge the definition of art, youâre threatening the people who have authority because of it: teachers, critics, curators, editors, producers, directors, even other artists. But youâre also threatening anyone who feels safe because that system is in place. Youâre threatening a larger system: the patriarchy, imperialism, misogyny, racism, etc.
Art is important, yo.
I gotta go find breakfast now.
