Nathan knelt by his bed, typing in his Netflix password and setting everything up. He glanced up at Sage as his screen loaded, sucking on his bottom lip nervously. He shook his head, shrugging and standing up. “She was pretty young. She doesn’t like anything remotely scary,” he said simply, grabbing the bag of lukewarm popcorn from his desk. He dimmed the lights for optimal viewing, sitting down a safe distance away from Sage, holding the popcorn out to her and placing his laptop on his knees. He tapped his spacebar, the opening tune coming on as he quickly got distracted.

Sage pursed her lips and nodded understandingly before pulling her legs up onto the bed and scooting closer to the headboard. “Or maybe she’s like, psychic or something and saw a deeper meaning, or ghosts or something.” the girl widened her eyes at the boy before giggling and taking the popcorn. “Just kidding. That’s probably crazy.”

Taking a handful into her mouth, Sage chewed mindlessly at the screen as her thoughts drifted off elsewhere. She liked the show. She did. But she was pretty sure she liked Nathan a little bit more. Sage found herself scooting closer to him until their sides touched. “Do you mind? I can see better.” she said monotonously, eyes still on the screen as her head dropped to rest on his shoulder.

“I really don’t think the one you showed me was that scary. Why did Blake get nightmares?” Sage asked cautiously as she plopped down on Nathan’s bed, bouncing as she looked at him curiously. Not that she wanted nightmares for herself. There was no way she wanted that -- she had a hard enough time sleeping as it was. But she wanted to spend time with Nathan. And maybe if she got scared enough they could get a little closer. Maybe it was a long shot, but Sage didn’t really think she had anything to lose.
