This is Doris Pollas, the cofounder of the organisation now known as lgbt+ Denmark which by being founded in 1948 is one of the oldest ongoing queer organisation in the world.

Doris lived in a farm in Jutland as a child. She was always butch and figured out she was a lesbian in her teens. When she heard about a club in copenhagen where boys kissed boys and girls kissed girls she went just some months after and it was through that club she started a paper connecting queer people all up to seventies and co founded lgbt+ Denmark.

She is now 97 years old and wishes for every queer person to have an as loving and accepting family as she did.

I don’t see a lot of older gays from my country, so learning about Doris, a masc lesbian, was really nice.

some thoughts on obsession (2026):

to me, the main focus of the movie is on bear and his selfishness. he puts himself and what he wants above everyone, including nikki.

when bear wishes for nikki to love him more than anyone else in the world, this could mean that he wants her to love him more than she loves anyone else, but his wish could also be interpreted as wanting her to love him more than anyone else loves him. and because no one loves bear as much as bear loves bear (after all, the only person who’s ever gonna care about us and our lives as much as we do is—well—ourselves), he almost wishes for her to become him. this not only fits nicely with the theme of men seeing women or potential romantic partners as an extension of themselves, an accessory or their own desires reflected back at them, but it was also what was coming across to me in the moment where nikki says that her cat died—before remembering it was actually bear’s. in order to outdo his own selfishness in the love contest, she actually becomes him for a moment. she feels his pain and experiences his life as if it is her own.

and conversely, it is nikki’s wish, which we can assume was for bear to love her more than anyone else in the world, which forces him to put her first. his selfishness drives him to chicken out of killing himself even though it would save nikki. he cares about himself more than her, like he has for the whole movie. but finally, with her wish, she actually forces bear to do the first loving thing he’s done for the entire film. he dies and sets her free. his selfishness is forced to stop when she forces him to love her, and that love and putting her above himself is what frees her. you know, because that’s what anybody who actually loved her would’ve done all along.
