Hello, may I ask what is a good fabric for basic tote bags? And what did you use to make that light blue lolita messenger bag back then?
Hey! I usually use something heavier, either twill or jacquard or winter wool - if youāre familiar working with leather or vinyl, tbh those are the best. These arenāt the only fabrics out there that work, but basically you want something that is heavier that wonāt fray/break, as bags are put under a lot of strain. The fabric tends to wear through along stress points. When you make a bag, make sure you line it. You can get fabrics that are specifically designed for bag lining (but you donāt necessarily need this) and it cuts back on the fraying.
That said - if youāre making a very simple tote bag, and itās not designed to carry much, you can (sometimes) get away with using something lighter. For the blue lolita messenger bag I made awhile back (Iām assuming you meant this one), I actually used leftover cotton gingham and just lined the bag really well.
Hope that helps!
