Premiere: Light Caverns âJ. Â Parkerâ
Former members of SGM favorite Casper Elgin have come together to form new band Light Caverns. The band has a similar twinkley style but with a more mature sound. Light Caverns is releasing their first EP in the coming weeks and have today are streaming the first song off the EP. The track is entitled âJ. Parker.â Heres what the band has to say about the track:
"J. Parker is a song about attempts at self improvement and lack of progression. Putting events of your adolescence on a linear timeline and realizing that you may have not moved as far along as you wanted to, or as much as your peers have. Itâs easier to accept this as a truth by detaching yourself from it, which is why weâve given the moniker âJ. Parkerâ to a self of ours that we arenât satisfied with. Weâve also been siting on this song for almost a year now, so itâs kind of funny that it worked out this way, with the lack of progression of putting this thing out. but on the plus side - unlike the lyrical content describes, we can already see a progression and improvement in our writing together."

Albums In My Heart: Frank Turner - Love Ire & Song
The first time I heard this album with while I was flying to England back in 2010. My dad had told me to listen to Frank Turner because he was going to be playing the festival we were going to while in England. On first listen I wasnât too blown away but after seeing Frank Turner at the festival and watching every single person in the crowd sing along to every word my mind was changed. That experience truly moved me and I began listening to the album from a completely different perspective. I began to really listen to the lyrics and finding my own meaning to every word out of Turnerâs mouth. In the past 5 years Iâve been able to find a song off this album to comfort me in every situation. This album has also brought my dad and I closer than ever. We both share a love for Frank Turner and always go see him together. After seeing him probably 5 more times and each time being as moved as the first time I decided to get Frank Turner to write down my favorite lyrics off this album so i could get them tattooed on me. Today I have âThe only thing thatâs left to do is liveâ forever in my skin and this album forever in my heart.

Basement - Oversized
Basement released another song off of their upcoming album. The song entitled âOversizedâ is a slightly different direction than the sound of the bands previous two albums.Â
Vocalist Andrew Fisher says: "This is the first softer song on the record, and it helps adds a contrast in pace to the flow of the whole album. When I hear this song I think of early Jets To Brazil and even some of the more melodic songs from Blur like âCoffee and TVâ, especially with the harmonies at the end. Oversized is about being afraid to reveal who you really are to the people you care about and who care about you. I think this is sometimes hard because they are the people that matter to you the most and even though you assume they will accept you for who you are, you're still so scared and in need of their approval.âÂ
Check out the song HERE
Foxing - Dealer
Foxingâs album Dealer is by far the most beautiful and heart wrenching album to be released in 2015. This album is heavier and more instrumentally complex than the bandâs debut album Albatros. In this album you can sense the effect touring and pouring his heart into songs filled with emotion has had on singer, Connor Murphy,âI am caught up in the guilt/ Making a living off of drowning.â Dealer is much more of an inward look at oneâs self than a look out into the world. It is all about reflecting on yourself and your experiences.
Bands I Wish I Could Have Seen Live.
Glocca Morra: I have been a fan of Glocca for years and had somehow never seen them live even though theyâre from Philadelphia. They played their final show in Philly this past May and I just missed getting tickets to the show. I will forever have regrets.
Snowing: Unfortunately I never got a chance to see Snowing live even though they are from my hometown. I got introduced to them about a month after their final show.
Have Heart: This band is part of the reason Iâm straight edge. Their lyrics inspire me so much and it would have been great to be able to see them perform. I did get to meet Pat Flynn at a Fiddlehead show one time and that was pretty great.
Artist to Know: Tom Rosenthal
Tom Rosenthal is a singer/songwriter from London England. He writes beautiful piano songs that are so understated yet make a huge impact. Every song is brimming with emotion both good and bad. His songs can range from heart wrenching ballads about a love interest to a tongue and cheek song about a watermelon. Tom has released 3 full length albums and an album of b-sides.Â

Thoughts: The World Is.... - Harmlessness
The World Is... have always been one of my favorite bands since I first got into the whole âemoâ (whatever you want to call it) scene. However with the release of Between Bodies I began to feel a little disenchanted with the band. I felt the band was losing direction. Harmlessness has brought the band back on track. I feel like this album is the one to tie all the others together. Many of the lyrical themes touched upon in the bandâs previous albums have come back and been expanded upon in this album. Musically the album is beautiful. The World Is... have made good use of all 9 band members on this album. In this album The World Is... have shown that they are more than just a emo meme kid band but a band that can be taken seriously.

Riot Fest Chicago 2015 Highlights
Day 1:
The first day of Riot Fest started gloomy and rainy but as soon as the music started the skies cleared. I started the day with a set from Into It Over It. Singer, Evan Weiss, never disappoints in a live show. Him and his band were laughing and having a great time. When Evan began playing their song Upstate Blues and realized his guitar was out of tune he abruptly stopped and joked, âyou guys paid too much to be here for me to play out of tune.â Next was Real Friends. As expected they commanded the crowd. Between songs their singer made a speech about the current state of the pop punk/emo music scene touching upon the topic of sexual assault. I was saddened when I was the only person around me who was clapping in agreement that the scene needs to start being changed for the better. Finally the biggest highlight of Friday was No Doubtâs headlining set. This band still has their shit together and Gwen is only getting better on stage. Their set was hit after hit and took me back to my childhood.
Day 2:
Saturday at Riot Fest was a middle school throwback day. The day started with a set from The Ataris playing their album âBlue Skies, Broken HeartsâŚNext 12 Miles.â I will say I was a little disappointed they didn't play their famous cover of âBoys of Summer.â Later in the day Joyce Manor played on the smallest stage at the festival and they commanded it. Their set had one of the most enthusiastic crowds I saw all weekend. Joyce Manor played song after song trying to squeeze as much into their half hour set as possible. I closed off the night with a set from Taking Back Sunday. This was by my favorite set of the weekend. For most of my life I have loved TBS and seeing them at my favorite festival with almost everyone in the crowd singing a long was amazing. It almost surreal when the crowd sang the lyrics, âWhy canât I feel anything from anyone other than you,â louder than the band themselves.
Day 3:
Sunday was the only day of the festival that it didnât rain at all! On the schedule there was a gap on the Revolt stage at 4:00. Early in the day Riot Fest announced that Taking Back Sunday would be playing a set on the small stage. Of corse I had to go see them on a more intimate stage. Unfortunately I was disappointed in their set. They played the same set as the previous night until they realized they were running out of time and quickly played their hit âMakeDamnSure.â I would have liked to have seen more deep tracks from their albums instead of the same songs I had heard the night before. After that I saw Foxingâs set. I was blown away by the emotion their singer puts into every song. Itâs like heâs singing every song for the first time. The biggest draw of the day was fro Snoop Doggâs set and to be completely honest I wasnât blown away by it. To start with Snoop came on 20 minutes late which automatically left a bad taste in my mouth. I thought his performance was just okay. It was awesome to see Snoop Dogg but beyond that it left something to be desired. Maybe itâs just because I will never fully understand the appeal of a rap show.
Over all Riot Fest Chicago 2015 was stellar! It has to be my favorite festival I have ever been to. It has such a divers crowd in terms of age and there are no egos in the crowd or on stage. Riot Fest isnât the type of festival to go to just to be âseen.â Everyone there was there because they appreciated the music. And isnât that what festivals are truly about?

Brand New Debut Another New Song
The band played the new song at their show at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles last night. Itâs called âSealed To Me.â The band handed out a lyric sheet for the new track at the merch table before playing the song during their encore (view below). This song is the second new song they have premiered in SIX years. Weâre assuming both âSealed To Meâ and previously debuted âMeneâ are from an upcoming album from the band.
