âtransition poses some ethical questions. Such as, from what age should you be allowed to irreversibly change your body.â
This of course completely ignores the fact that puberty makes irreversible changes to your body. But let us just rephrase the question: âfrom what age do you gain bodily autonomy?â Now it gets very easy to answer: From the moment youâre fucking born.
Iâm sorry, Iâm reblogging this twice in a row it is that important
Stand up and say it again for the people in the back row.Â
This is all completely true and correct, of course, but on the topic of changes that irreversibly change a childâs body, prithee, go and talk to a fucking ballet dancer.
If you start ballet at 16, you are too old to ever expect to be able to do it seriously. If you start at 12 youâre too old. If you want to do ballet as a serious thing, as a career, you need to start at like eight years old or even younger, because your bones and joints need to be trained while theyâre still flexible in order for you to be able to perform many of the required motions and stances of ballet. In particular, you need to be able to perform turnout of the hips, but all of your joints in your legs and feet will be affected, and this irreversibly changes your body.
And yet! Nobody talks about this as a negative thing! Little girls say they want to be ballet dancers, and if their parents have enough money, thatâs what they get to be! Does it cause problems in later life? Yeah, sometimes! Often, even! But nobody talks about that because itâs a thing for cis people to do and so naturally itâs all fine!
Go and talk to a fucking ballet dancer.
i love when smthing makes u mad and then u eat food and ur like okay that was still wrong but im normal about it now
taps mic haha. lot of dwarves in the c.rowd tonight
it's crazy to me that halfway through the silmarillion fingolfin challenges morgoth to a 1v1 fight and morgoth accepts... like imagine halfway through lord of the rings aragorn bangs on the black gate and sauron actually comes out alone and they fist fight until sauron is wounded and aragorn goes splat and then his body is picked up by an eagle and dropped in rivendell. and then everyone else says "oh ok" and carries on somehow for another 500 pages like nothing happened
baby autusm so small . the hawk take him away

can we talk about the ups strike can we PLEASE talk about the ups strike
i know since writers and actors are already striking thats gonna take up most of the news space on social media but like. ups has until july 31st to meet the teamster's demands and if not then theyre going on the biggest strike against a single corporation since the early 1900s. the uaw (auto manufacturers union) contract is up this fall, and i believe the alu (amazon labor union) is as well. there's a huge possibility that they might strike as well, depending on how long the ups strike lasts.
im seeing a lot of talk about hollywood going down but i want to see more talk about labor rights and working class solidarity across the board... like A Lot of shit is about to go down
we're about to see a lot more propaganda by more than just hollywood, we're about to see a lot of bullshit political moves on local, state, and federal levels. dont fall for it. workers have power.
There are already news articles saying that striking UPS workers will kill people by refusing to deliver medical supplies and other vital necessities.
That is propaganda.
Striking workers are not withholding medical supplies, UPS is holding medical supplies and other necessities hostage because they donât want to pay their employees a living wage.
it is insane how fucking tiny these buttons are did they not like. consider the concept of UI scaling like at all. did they not consider what theyd do if someone had a big monitor. what is this shit
why asre there two post buttons. why do i get little numbers next to 'home' and 'following' when btoh are giving me the exact same information. why is it that when you open the account view you have the exact same information on both sides of your screen. why is it that the activity popup obscuires the dashboard now instead of the 1000000 miles of empty space on my god damn desktop. did they not consider the concept of UI scaling at all?????
when i first saw people p[ostp about this i thought maybe they were overreacting because they hate twitter and change but like. whatever you think abotu the concept of 'putting all this shit on the left side of your screen' as a bold UI innovation or whatever in concept this shit is like. just straight up unfinished. like i legitimately dont understand how this was considered ready to roll out to users
why does the activity popup open on the ONE part of my screen i DONT want to be obscured when im using tumblr dot com!!
no seriously why is this information displayed twice one inch apart. im not being snarky when i say this genuinely just seems actually unfinished
dont talk to me or my three (3) 'activity' buttons that show up when you're already on the activity page ever again
been having a normal one lately (revisiting one of my foundational obsessions, you know how it is) so i made a meme about it
on a serious note regarding the wga strike and (as of 1:50 AM PST 7/13) upcoming sag-aftra strike, dsa-la has a fundraiser called The Snacklist which provides snacks and water on the picket lines here in LA. right now the funds they have will not last through the end of the summer, especially given the current and upcoming heatwaves necessitating more supplies. if you have a couple of dollars to spare it's a great way to directly support the writers (and potentially the actors) during this difficult time!
happy first sag-aftra strike in 60 years to all who celebrate.
if you are an enjoyer of media (which i will guess based on your presence on tumblr that you are) please consider donating to the snacklist (linked above) or to any of the following mutual aid funds that directly support striking actors/writers, IATSE and teamster union members who are also out of work and by and large refusing to cross the picket lines, and nonunion PAs and assistants (like yours truly) who are directly impacted by the work stoppage. everyone in this industry works unbelievably hard to bring you the shows, movies, webseries, and variety programs that you enjoy and every worker deserves a fair contract. any support you can give is extremely meaningful.
The Entertainment Community Fund provides emergency financial assistance to anyone in the entertainment industry who is unable to pay their immediate basic living expenses such as housing, food, bills, and healthcare.
The Union Solidarity Coalition has been formed by members of the wga, sag, and the dga to help cover the cost of healthcare for IATSE and teamsters who will not get enough work hours to qualify for their coverage this year due to their refusal to cross a picket line.
The Hollywood Support Staff Relief Fund (also run by the Entertainment Community Fund but separate from the above link which supports all film and tv workers) offers assistance to tv and film support staff and assistants who are not protected by a union and have been displaced from low or entry level positions.
Drive 4 Solidarity is an IATSE organized event in August raising funds for all union and guild members. Tickets are available for those in socal but donations are being taken as well.
Humanitas Groceries for Writers fund provides WGA members with grocery gift cards.
Green Envelope Grocery is a grocery fund for all workers in the entertainment industry regardless of union status.

Hi folks. There seems to be a lot of confusion about what we as fans can and can't do with the striking happening. So I made a flowchart.
Let me make this SUPER DUPER EXTRA CLEAR. Unless an AMPTP studio reaches out and says "We would like to give you X (money/swag/whatever) to create content for us" (that would include writing or acting in anyway on your part) you will NOT be crossing a picket line.
Cosplay, fanart, fanfic, going feral, sharing marketing posts, watching your favorite show, getting your friends to watch your favorite show, etc does not count.
It is ONLY scabbing if you are getting REIMBURSED by the STUDIO.
Please take this flowchart, repost it, spread it everywhere!
The studios benefit from us being confused. The studios benefit from us not promoting and not watching and cancelling our subscriptions. The unions, the actors, the writers, they all benefit from us promoting in their absence, they get paid when we watch the shows, we bolster their argument when we boost the shows numbers. If we make the media popular and successful the studios have to meet the writers and actors at the table, and the writers and actors will be in the position of power.

Also, heading this off now: HK, how do you know all this?
I am not a SAG member. I am in a sister union, however, and in recent positions was the one who had to deal with contract negotiations with said union as my daily job.
All right, kiddos, buckle up cause itâs time for some labor organization education.
Again, I want to reiterate. I am a member of a SAG-AFTRA sister union. Whatâs that mean? That means that as a member of Actorâs Equity (known as Equity in other parts of the globe), I can work on a SAG-AFTRA contract and get the full coverage of that union while on that contract without paying dues to SAG. Likewise, my peers in SAG-AFTRA can work on Equity contracts without paying dues to Equity. This is a unique thing to the entertainment industry. You donât have two separate unions for baristas who work at the Starbucks in a Mall vs Starbucks in their own store. But you DO have two separate unions for actors, thatâs because the contracts, time demands, etc, are incredibly different between screen and stage. The point is, however, as sister unions, itâs incredibly important for members of both to understand what the other is saying, to keep in line and in step. My union may not be on strike, however, as a sister, my union cannot support me taking on SAG work right now otherwise Iâm a scab.
So, when I say something isnât scabbing, Iâm not saying this because I want us all to cosplay and have fun. Iâm saying it because itâs. not. scabbing.
Okay. That out of the way. Letâs break this down.
SAG-AFTRAâs FAQ for Influencers is where the confusion seems to be coming from. Letâs define the word âinfluencerâ yeah? An influencer is someone who uses social media to market and promote for brands. This is these peopleâs jobs. They are not just someone with a big twitter following, but someone who literally makes a living by asking companies to pay them to promote their goods and services. Influencers MAY be Content Creators. But Content Creators are NOT always Influencers. Influencers, specifically the Influencers SAG-AFTRA is talking to, are generally folks who are self-employed and have created an LLC or other corporation entity to perform their work under.
SAG-AFTRA recognizes these folks as actors in their own rights, and knows those folks need health insurance. So, they created the SAG-AFTRA Influencer Agreement. They make it pretty clear who this is for:
âIf you are an individual who works directly with brands who hire you to create, perform in, produce and distribute content through your own social media feeds, this contract is for you. SAG-AFTRA members can use this agreement, and so can influencers who arenât members yet.â
(emphasis mine)
And part of their requirements include:
âYou have a corporate or business entity, such as a corporation or LLC.â
If you are not hired or contracted as part of your corporate or business entity to create content for brands, you are not an influencer. You may have a huge following. You may be an amazing content creator. You may be really cool! But you are not an influencer.
SAG-AFTRA has told these Influencers that they should not accept any new work, however, they have said that âif an influencer is already under contract to promote struck work, then the influencer should fulfill their work obligation.â
(emphasis again, mine)
Influencers previously contracted are not scabbing. Additionally, influencers who do not have deals to promote shows or companies for struck work are able to participate in conventions etc, so long as their participation is wholly independent of characters from struck work, or sponsorship by struck companies.
So, if Iâm Influencer with a deal with Netflix, Iâm probably not going to go to a convention as a character from Nimona, even if I havenât been asked to do anything for Nimona recently. However, if my buddy needs an Aziraphale to their Crowley for a day, and weâre doing it for fun, and I donât have any deals with Amazon, and Amazon hasnât reached out to me about doing deals. I can probably get away with going to the convention as Crowley, so long as I donât then jump on my influencer social media accounts and go âhaha! Letâs all go watch Good Omens!â Â But if a fan of mine sees me and takes a pic, I'm not in trouble and I'm not a scab. I can even say on my own accounts "Having a great time at comic-con!" and share a picture of something that isn't me, and I am STILL not a scab.
If Iâm not an influencer (and I suspect most of you who are confused by what SAG-AFTRA means right now are not, in fact, influencers), but just a Big Name Fan, or a Content Creator with a large following, or just HKBlack, overwhelmed by you-know-who reblogging a flowchart (hi Neil), I can do whatever the heckadoodle I want and it is not scabbing.
You have to think of a picket line as a physical thing. You can literally cross a picket line and walk onto a set and work. And for many people who work in positions that are not covered by unions (interns, administration like HR, finance, IT, etc) do, but they are not scabs because they are not performing work or services that is covered by the strike. The strike is for WRITERS and ACTORS. Yes, that includes a bit of promotion, but thatâs because promotion is literally in the contracts for writers and actors these days. Itâs part of their job description. But promotion is also the Marketing departmentâs job, and itâs their entire job, but the Marketing department is not covered by SAG-AFTRA. They have to keep working in order to get paid, and they are not eligible for union benefits if they donât do their work. So, they are still promoting and they are not scabs. Other union members (IATSE) who need to get paid who are not currently on strike are ALSO not scabs if they have to cross the picket line. In fact, thatâs why unions publish when the picket lines are going to start, so that if you are an electrician who needs that paycheck, you can get on set before the picket begins, and then when the picket shuts down work for the day the studio still has to pay you. You are not a scab. If youâre an electrician who can afford to go without a day of pay, you can wait to show up until after the picket begins and then are able to say âIâm sorry, but as a member of X union, I donât feel comfortable crossing a picket line.â HOWEVER, as an electrician whose union is not striking, you risk losing your job on that set, and having to deal with it. Solidarity between unions doesnât just mean we sometimes strike together. It also means understanding each other when the other union isnât striking, and someone has a baby to feed.
In a digital world, there is still an element of physical that has to happen to become a scab. There has to be a physical exchange. A physical exchange of money. If you are not paid to write or act or to promote as an influencer (which is its own writing and acting), then you are unable to cross that picket line.
If there is not a physical crossing of the line to do work that is being struck, or an exchange of money, you are not scab. Period. End of statement. Anyone who says otherwise does not understand labor movements. And may be parroting Studio Propaganda.
Whatâs that? Studio Propaganda?
Yes. Studio Propaganda. We cannot just talk about what we can and canât do in the vacuum of not understanding why the strike is happening.
Studios are saying that Streaming is Volatile and Unknown. Itâs âtoo newâ for them to pay fair wages.
Unions are calling bullshit.
If viewership goes down, if subscriptions get cancelled, you are actively proving the Studioâs point.
If viewership/subscriptions remain the same, or, even better, go up, you are actively calling bullshit with the Unions.
Union members cannot currently promote their stuff. This means there is a very real risk of viewership going down. Mr. Gaiman recently shouted praise for the lovely human behind the Good Omens marketing. Do you think a man with membership in both striking unions would be praising the person responsible for promotion if the unions didnât want things being promoted?
Every ticket bought for Barbieheimer, every full watch in the first 28 days of Good Omens and What We Do in the Shadows, directly translates to money in Cast, Crew, and Writer pockets. Immediately. Because the Studios still have to pay during Strikes for contracts that have been executed. Additionally, every viewer number counts in favor towards the union. If thereâs enough viewership and demand for a show, that weakens the studios position as they have to meet the unions in order to get the people who created that show back. Less viewership = less demand = Studios retaining their positions of power that streaming is just an unknown. Will people stream? Will they? (yes. WeâŚall literally are.)
Studios want you to not remind folks that Good Omens Season 2 premieres on July 28th. Because they donât want you to watch Good Omens because they donât want to pay Neil and Michael and David more money for (Hypothetical) Season 3. Studios donât want you to tell your friends to see Barbie on July 21st, because they donât want to pay the cast and writers once the movie goes off the screen and into the streaming void. Studios want you to think being a fan and talking for free hurts them, not the actors and writers, because the very opposite is true. The more we create demand for the things we love, the more we put the people who created those thingsâthe actors and writers, NOT the execsâin a position of power at the negotiation table.
So, stop drinking the studio propaganda. Get out there, cosplay, get hype, and be a fan. Because right now we are the most powerful tool the unions have to put those studios in their place.
the way these strikes get framed is always so funny to me
"the strike could stretch on until the end of summer" or the execs could pay their workers
"there won't be ANY new shows because of this strike" or the execs could pay their workers
"no more content for us because the mean old writers and actors are-" OR THE EXECS COULD PAY THEIR WORKERS
Oh and that fucking crab day post sends shivers down my spine btw. I say this as someone who owns multiple pieces of tumblr merch â support them if you want, or donât, I donât care, but we are NOT turning a tech corporation into our poor little wet meow meow who deserves all our money uwu. We are NOT pressuring normal ass people into donating to resolve a companyâs millions in debt as if itâs some important charitable cause.
you want to help stop tumblr from murdering itself? here's how!
click this link and go to the support page, then click "contact support"
click on the category list and click on feedback
now you need to tell staff WHY putting in an algorithm will cause the site to fucking die, and be sure to be detailed and not a dick in it. theyre not gonna listen to feedback calling them assholes
viola, if @staff listens, we'll be fine
i encourage you to reblog this so we can get as many people leaving feedback as humanly possible. we need to let staff know this is an utterly terrible idea
by the way, tumblr has turned off asks on all of their staff blogs, so this is the only way to tell tumblr how you feel
here it is again because uh. seems relevant.
What's ur take on staff actively ruining the site???
I was trying to stay positive about the changes but things are looking bleak, tumblrinas
