he was about to cut off the villager’s words with his sword before atlas shows a small bouquet, grip choking the yellow-green stems that curled around his fingers. saber wasn’t one for gratitude  – even less for the act of talking itself – but as he takes the flowers from the other, he figured it wasn’t so bad after all to get to know his crew. 

his crew. he used to refer to them as these random bunch of people celica recruited because of charisma. guess things can change after all.

〔 ✦ 〕 SHE was expecting that answer, but it still tugged at her heart. Of course, he had his own life to attend to, helping Jesse rebuild Grieth from the ground up. He wasn’t a lap dog, not one to come at every beck and call. Besides, he didn’t owe her any favors, she just hired him to protect her.

Her gaze would falter, her gaze lifting to the wall while his fell. She hasn’t met to cause awkwardness, but that’s exactly what happened. Copper gaze would float back to his once he spoke, eyes softening with a gentle tenderness.

DISAPPOINTING, HE KNOWS -- he catches the hesitation, the way her smile fell from her lips. seems like he’s fated to make her frown in the worst way. saber never meant to harm celica; some part of him yearns to stay by her side, and let bygones be bygones; he would raise a sword in her name, and she would give everything he asked her for. 

he meets her eyes briefly at the mention of her friends, and he gnaws on the bottom of his lip as he contemplates. jesse needed his help -- but kamui was there, wasn’t he? there wouldn’t be any trouble if he was delayed for a moment or two. 

        “ nothing but some curiosity on my part. i’m the last person to worry about whether you’re zofian or not. ”

     he waved his hand as if to clear any bad air between them, turning his face away from the mercenary at his side. he didn’t want to stir up trouble with one of the allies he tentatively considered a friend among celica’s ragtag crew. kamui just considered himself someone to find the truth where he could – as they said, curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back.

        “ like i said, you don’t have the zofian look, even among the coastal region. ”

     he squints at kamui in the dim light before he turns to look into the distance, lips pressing together. saber’s been turned away from many a bed because he had spilled his origins when he was flush with drink; most people met rigelians with incredible distaste, he had found out -- and even though it wasn’t as big a deal in celica’s army, he couldn’t help the natural suspicion.
