italki - there’s many websites for language tutoring but i think italki has the most languages (i have a referral link & if you use it we can both get $10 toward tutoring lol) - they say they support 130 languages!

there’s also preply and verbling which are also good but there aren’t as many options for languages - preply has 27 and verbling has 43

(obviously these are not free but if you have the money i think tutoring is a great way to learn a language!)

hellotalk - an app for language exchanges with native speakers & they also have functions where you can put up a piece of writing and ask for corrections - honestly this app is great

tandem - language exchange app but unlike hellotalk you can choose multiple languages (although i think hellotalk is a little bit better)

duolingo - obviously everybody knows about duolingo but i’m still going to put it here - i will say i think duolingo is a lot more useful for languages that use the latin alphabet than languages with another writing system however they do have a lot of languages and add more all the time - currently they have 19 languages but you can see what languages they’re going to add on the incubator

memrise - great for vocab! personally i prefer the app to the desktop website

drops - you can only do 5 minutes a day for free but i still recommend it because it’s fun and has 42 languages! 

LingoDeer - specifically geared towards asian languages - includes korean, japanese, chinese & vietnamese (as well as spanish, french, german, portuguese and russian), however only a limited amount is available for free

busuu - has arabic, chinese, french, german, italian, japanese, polish, portuguese, spanish, russian, spanish, & turkish,

Anki - a flashcard app (free on desktop for any system & free on android mobile - not free on ios mobile) that specifically uses spaced repetition to help you learn vocabulary, it’s got a slightly ugly design but it’s beloved by many language learners & is honestly so helpful

YouTube - literally utilize youtube it is so good.

Easy Languages - a youtube channel with several languages (basically they go around asking people on the street stuff so the language in the videos is really natural) & they also have breakaway channels for german, french, spanish, polish, italian, greek, turkish, russian, catalan & english

Are you hydrated? 

If not, have a glass of water. Dehydration can mimic or increase feelings associated with anxiety and a well hydrated brain functions optimally. Avoid excess caffeine. 

Have you eaten in the past three hours? 

Don’t be a victim of hanger! Get some food–something with protein, not just simple carbs or high-fat. Nuts, hummus, and veggies are great options to feed your studying brain. Keep healthy snacks within reach to avoid mindlessly chowing down on sweets. 

Have you stretched your legs in the past day? 

If not, do so right now. If you don’t have the energy or time for a run or a trip to the gym, just walk around the block or building. Even minimal exercise preps the mind for learning so that you can focus better and recall things easier, plus it’s good to get a change of scenery. 

Have you said something nice to someone in the past day? 

Do so, whether online or in person. Make it genuine! We bet your study partner would appreciate a compliment. 

Have you moved your body to music in the past day?

If not, jog for the length of a song at your favorite tempo, or just dance around your bedroom for the length of an upbeat song (singing along is a bonus) 

Have you cuddled a living being in the past two days?

If not, do so. Don’t be afraid to ask for hugs from friends of friends’ pets. Most of them will enjoy the cuddles too; you’re not imposing. 

Have you started or changed any medications in the past couple of weeks, including skipped doses or a change in generic prescription brand? 

That may be screwing with your head. Give things a few days, then talk to your doctor if it doesn’t settle down. 

If daytime: are you dressed? 

If no, put on clean clothes that aren’t PJs. Give yourself permission to wear something special, whether it’s a funny t-shirt or a pretty dress. 

If nighttime: are you sleepy and fatigued but resisting going to sleep? 

Put on PJs, make yourself cozy in bed with a teddy bear and the sound of falling rain, and close your eyes for fifteen minutes while focusing on breathing deeper with every breath- no electronic screens allowed! Adequate sleep is a necessity for stress management.

Pause right now and get something small completed, whether it’s responding to an email, loading the dishwasher, or tidying up your room. Good job!

Take a darn selfie. Your friends will remind you how great you look. You are always insta-worthy. 

Do you feel paralyzed by indecision?

Give yourself ten minutes to sit back and figure out a game plan for the day. If a particular decision or problem is still being a roadblock, simply set it aside for now, and pick something else that seems doable. Right now, the important part is to break through that stasis, even if it means doing something trivial. 

Have you over-exerted yourself lately–physically, emotionally, socially, or intellectually?

See, we have this concept called “bodily autonomy.” It’s this….cultural notion that a person’s control over their own body is above all important and must not be infringed upon. 

Like, we can’t even take LIFE SAVING organs from CORPSES unless the person whose corpse it is gave consent before their death. Even corpses get bodily autonomy. 

To tell people that they MUST sacrifice their bodily autonomy for 9 months against their will in an incredibly expensive, invasive, difficult process to save what YOU view as another human life (a debatable claim in the early stages of pregnancy when the VAST majority of abortions are performed) is desperately unethical. You can’t even ask people to sacrifice bodily autonomy to give up organs they aren’t using anymore after they have died. 

And here’s another point: When you say that “rape is the exception” you betray something FUNDAMENTALLY BROKEN about your own argument.

Because a fetus produced from sexual assault is biologically NO DIFFERENT than a fetus produced from consensual sex. No difference at all.

If one is alive, so is the other. If one is a person, so is the other. If one has a soul, then so does the other. If one is a little blessing that happened for a reason and must be protected, then so is the other. 

When you say that “Rape is the exception” what you betray is this: It isn’t about a life. This isn’t about the little soul sitting inside some person’s womb, because if it was you wouldn’t care about HOW it got there, only that it is a little life that needs protecting.

When you say “rape is the exception” what you say is this: You are treating pregnancy as a punishment. You are PUNISHING people who have had CONSENSUAL SEX but don’t want to go through a pregnancy. People who DARED to have consensual sex without the goal of procreation in mind, and this is their “consequence.” 

But I do not agree at all. I am completely against abortion.

Yes. There are some circumstances in which I feel abortion IS necessary, like for example, if the parent is at high risk of complications and if the child was made without consent.

At those moments, It’s understandable if the parent doesn’t want to have the child.

Either your life and/or the baby’s life is in danger, or it was an unfortunate assault.

But if you don’t want the child… Why kill them?! Everyone deserves a chance to live.

And actually, if the baby has a risk for a REALLY bad disease or condition… That’s actually a really good reason for abortion…

And I don’t mean simple conditions like autism. I mean, REALLY BAD.

Because this isn’t about pregnant people not wanting those children to be alive, like they have some personal vendetta against the fetus. This is about whether or not people consent to carrying a pregnant to term.

And I for one, dont feel comfortable with the government having the power to DEMAND that my body, or anyone else’s body, be used against their will and without consent, for the benefit of anyone else.

You’re right in saying that there is a fundamental issue with the argument “abortion is bad in all cases except rape”. If that is your argument, you’re saying that a life is only worth protecting if it is convenient or desired.

Regardless of HOW the pregnancy occured, there is a life started and it is worth protecting. A child conceived in rape has the exact same value and dignity as one formed in a loving marriage, and it unfair and bigoted to treat them any differently.

Now I’m sure we can all agree that rape is despicable. I know that some people will disagree, but I hold bodily autonomy and sex to a HIGH, HIGH regard. I will be transparent and say that I’m a Christian, but my argument would still be the same from a secular point of view.

As a result of that high regard, I’m for some of the highest punishment for rapists. They abused something that is supposed to be a beautiful, joining gift of intimacy, they abused the woman’s body which is a gift from God, and they inflicted mental trauma on the woman and her loved ones that will likely last a lifetime. Anyone who willingly does that is evil, and should be punished to the highest degree. Some people would support the death penalty for them.

So if we all agree that rapists deserve terrible punishment, why are we treating the child, who was completely innocent and had no choice in the situation, the same or even worse than the rapist? Really read into what happens in an abortion - they’re not pretty, and would be regarded as torture if done to anyone else. All of that, and then they, someone who was totally innocent and just wanted a chance to grow and be safe, are killed and thrown out like garbage.

I know of people who conceived children from rape, and I know of people who were born out of rape. Both deserve the utmost love and compassion. Those mothers deserve every single helping hand, loving word, and compassionate show of support that we can give. I fully support them getting everything they need, and believe they should be loved and protected. Once the children are born, I believe that they, too, should receive that same love and compassion. It’s not easy knowing what happened before you were born, but I believe that they and the mother can grow and thrive and overcome the past and what they cannot control.

You also seem to be taking the stance that a fetus is a person, is a child, and honestly? I’m fine with that too. I think that the distinction of when exactly a fetus becomes a “person” is fuzzy and ultimately- not important. 

Because no PERSON has the right to use the body of another without consent for any reason. No PERSON, no matter their age or size or circumstance, no matter their need, gets to take parts of another person’s body or use another person’s body, without consent, ever, for any reason. 

No person is entitled to another person’s body, and if a fetus is a person, that applies to them too, even if that fetus was conceived consensually. And no person should be legally or ethically obligated to let another person use their body against their will, even if the person in need is a fetus.
