My latest collage showcasing the cast of how I would have done the modern live-action Mortal Kombat movies.
As I mentioned before, the newer MK movies have their ups and downs, but I definitely feel they're not as great as the 1995 original. Granted, both are technically better than Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, but they still could have been better in certain aspects.
First of all, I would have made these new movies a trilogy that adapts the core conflicts of the first three games (as well as MK9) - the tournament on Shang Tsung's island, the 2nd tournament in Outworld, and Outworld's invasion of Earthrealm.
It wouldn't be a 1:1 adaptation of the story in the games, and there would be some significant changes (which I'll get to), but the goal is to be as faithful to the franchise as it can be.
There can be future movies and spin-offs continuing the franchise, but these three movies would make up what I like to call The Outworld Saga.
Liu Kang would be the main character of this trilogy. He starts off as a rebellious monk seeking revenge for his family, similar to Robin Shou in the 1995 movie. Eventually, he embraces his destiny as Earthrealm's champion, and matures into the noble monk he's typically depicted as.
The rest of the characters would have their place in the saga. Sonya Blade and Kung Lao would be Liu Kang's emotional anchors, Raiden would be the wise mentor figure, Kitana would be the princess who defects from Outworld to help the heroes, Johnny Cage would be fighting for Cassie, Shao Kahn would be the massive threat looming, and of course, the rivalry between Scorpion and Sub-Zero would play a huge part too.
Beyond all of this, the films would blend brutal Martial Arts and gore with modern Fantasy spectacle, and plenty of fanservice that would make even the most casual MK fans glee with joy.
That's all for now. More details are koming soon.
