darling, you're home.

You had heard of him, studied of him probably a more accurate term to use. No one really knew about what he was truly like; not that it would have mattered in the Lunar Kingdom anyway. Well, it shouldn’t have mattered.

After the events of the night, your father had figured that you might need some time to yourself to really think about everything your mother had so subtly revealed. So you went to the only place that you could think of - the Tower of Stars. It sounds very regal and elegant, but it’s really just an old upstanding portion of the castle that had been long forgotten about until you had turned it into your own little hideaway, relocating your bedroom to the area right next to the Tower as well. Lately, you were spending a lot of time there, and with what was revealed just a few hours prior, you have a feeling that there’s no way you’re ever going to leave this place. 

Leaving meant that you needed to face the world. Your people. Your parents. Jangjun. Juyeon. 

You groan, resting your head against the windowsill in the Tower. It didn’t have quite as nice of a view of the capital, but it did have a beautiful view of the moon and for some reason, the thought isn’t quite as comforting. You glare up at the shining ball in the sky, huffing and crossing your arms over your chest. 

“Just because you fell in love with the Sun God doesn’t mean that you get to dictate my love life too!” you exclaim, trying to raise your voice. But it doesn’t pitch any higher and you sound less angry than before, making you even more upset. 

“Now I can’t even get mad in peace?” 

You want to kick and scream and shout and just do something but you don’t. You sit there, and just let the hot tears welling up in your eyes fall, watching the moon shine in her relentless happiness and your sadness. And there you fall asleep, in pain and in hurt. 

You don’t see the Moon Goddess caress your hair or hear her whisper into your ear. 

“Everything will be alright. I love you, my child.”

You’re even more tired when you wake up then you were when you fell asleep. As the people of the Lunar Kingdom drew their power from the moon, the day usually started as dusk and ended at dawn. Having to remain awake during the day was more of a chore than you had previously anticipated, nearly falling asleep while your maids did your hair and makeup. The task of sitting there in itself was usually not that terrible but coupled with the fact that the king and queen of the enemy kingdom are walking in your midst, along with the idea that they might be your in-laws soon enough, it was grueling.

The entire matter was just too strange. A century old enemy coming into their home base and no one else was on edge but you. It felt as if you were the only one who were apprehensive about the entire thing. 

You sigh and rise from your position, your maids having finished braiding your hair in long, elegant waves. Dismissing the ladies who are waiting for your sign to leave, you wrap the gossamer silk draped over your bare shoulders over your arms. Heading towards the door where once you leave, you will be a forever changed woman, you can’t help the thoughts which clutter your mind. And for the first time in quite some years, your thoughts head not to the Head of the Guards, but to Juyeon.

Juyeon’s beyond fucked. He’s fallen for a princess he’s never even met before and quite likely hates his guts. If that doesn’t scream “you’re screwed”, he’s not quite sure what does. He’s always been like the sun, according to his mother. Prideful, aggressive, masculine, and absolutely charming. He appreciates the compliments but he’s not too sure that a prideful, aggressive, masucline, and absolutely charming descendant of the Sun God himself would ever fall for someone he didn’t know.

“Actually, that’s not true. You did fall for a lady you didn’t even know. I mean seriously? You fell for the Moon Goddess? Without even knowing her Omega name?” Juyeon says, ranting to the figure in the center of the Solar Eclipse Room, specially made for the upcoming, dare he say it, wedding. The Sun God rolls his eyes, crossing his arms over his chest. 

“That’s different. I met her during the dusk and the dawn. You haven’t even met Y/N and you think you fell for her?” he questions the pacing man across from him. Juyeon stops in his tracks and glares at the man radiating the heat of the sun. 

“Yes but I didn’t ask to meet you. You could’ve let me meet Y/N instead of you but no. I’m stuck with a god who wants to get his great-times-a-couple grandson married to the princess of the enemy kingdom who randomly showed up, glowing and all, and watched me try to rule a kingdom. You’re literally a god. Do you not have a social life outside of ruining my love life?” Juyeon says in one breath. He’s not too sure if the Sun God has followed anything he just said but he understands that perhaps he doesn’t want him to. Social life or not, he could still technically turn Juyeon to smithereens and quite frankly he was pretty sure he could do that himself. He was clumsy enough at least. 

For the first time, the Sun God, who still refuses to tell Juyeon his Alpha name after three months of nonstop torturous lectures, has a sad glint in his eyes. He sighs dejectedly and Juyeon’s suddenly recollecting that perhaps the whole love life matter was probably not the best thing to bring up with him. 

“You’re only human, Juyeon. You cannot live forever, have magnificent powers, nor can you wield the power of the Light. But even without all this, you have the ability to do the one thing I could never do: love. You can love whoever you choose to. You can yell at me that you have fallen in love with a woman you have never met. Hell, you could probably even fall in love with a maid and you would be fine. It isn’t like that for me.”

“First Alpha or not, there is too much the Moon Goddess and I lost in the process. We gave up the one thing we had to keep us going for the humans: each other. You quite literally have everything we do not have. I cannot force you to yield to the prophecy. I won’t lie to you, there are other ways to prevent the troubles the prophecy foresees outside of the union of the Lunar and Solar kingdoms. But if I cannot marry the love of my immortal life, I want my son to marry her daughter.”

“Generations of descendants of the Sun and Moon and this is the generation which will end the wars and banish the perils to come. It is no mistake. The Goddess of Time tests us all but she has seen to it that the prophecy will rise for you and Y/N. You think your love for her is a small matter which is a fluke in the system but you are wrong. You were chosen, Juyeon.”

The words of the Sun God ring in Juyeon’s head even as he tries to sleep. 

You were chosen, Juyeon. 

This was even more serious than Juyeon could have previously imagined and he can’t help the shiver that runs down his spine. He turns in his bed, moonlight falling on his face like a sweet caress. It’s strange. Juyeon is the strongest, most powerful, and the most capable in the sunlight. But at night, when he’s weaker and more vulnerable, he feels more of himself than ever. He’s allowed to cry, allowed to be soft and gentle, allowed to hurt. In the blinding sunlight that takes away all his freedom, he cannot. But he’s alright with it. It’s all for the people he loves after all.

He loves his kingdom. He loves his people. And now he loves you.

At least, he thinks he loves you from what the Moon Goddess tells him. She tells him of your regal nature, elegance and poise etched into your every feature. She tells him of how you sit by the windowsill, gossamer silks flowing from your body as if it were made of nothing more than water. She tells him how you glow in the moonlight, voice smooth and soft as the rain that you so enjoyed. How couldn’t he fall? You were just too beautiful.

Juyeon can’t even bring himself to care about envisioning what you looked like. Every time the Moon Goddess had sat next to him and lulled him to sleep, like his own mother, running her cold fingers through his hair, he had stopped her from telling him what you looked like. No matter your skin color, your hair color, your features, he knew you were beautiful.

All you wanted was to go shopping for your younger sister, get drunk at her surprise birthday

party, and pretend that you weren’t absolutely hungover at the Monday Morning Meetings but no. Stupid fucking Minotaur. Excuse me? 

“Yeah, oh shit’s right. Why is there a Minotaur right there? Why did that boy turn into a Minotaur? And why the hell is no one else panicking and screaming and crying and oh my god, I’m so shitty under pressure,” Bora manages to get out in one breath. 

“Uh. Well, I don’t mean to state the obvious but maybe we should get out of this mall before we try to figure out the technicalities? Even if no one else sees the bull on steroids, I have a feeling they’re gonna see the damage,” you say, trying to ignore Bora’s look of sheer horror. 

“Damage? You don’t think - oh fuck.” 

Bora doesn’t get to finish her sentence because the boy/Minatour was making its way over, flickering between human and some deranged cow variant. You really didn’t want to know what he wanted and you had a feeling that Bora wasn’t feeling too troubled to find out either.To anyone else, you suspect that they would either just see a regular teenage boy walking towards two pretty girls or absolutely nothing at all, given that no one had so much as batted an eye when he began his journey to your table, which didn’t really help your issue. You exchange a look with her and counting down from three under your breath, you whisper to run. 

The two of you bolt, running as fast as you can, and at this point, you couldn’t care any less because even if the angry buffalo was slow, it was big and you were small. Very small. Very very small. Like a granola bar for breakfast type small. 

When you were around ten years old, you had vowed you were gonna die a peaceful death, as morbid as it was for a child to be talking about. Not a deranged one as some Greek mythological nightmare’s appetizer. So you grab Bora’s hand and sprint as fast as you can towards the exit, which appears to be bathed in light, strangely enough. In your rush, your toe catches on the hook at the base of the gumball machine which in theory, was supposed to be attached to the ground because apparently, kids had little impulse control. The action wrenches your foot awkwardly, effectively twisting it, and likely spraining it. 

“Someone should outlaw that,” you gasp, scrambling to make up for the ground lost. But every slightest application of pressure on your foot feels like you’re breaking it more and more and it’s all you can do from screaming out in pain and attracting even more attention from the shoppers around you. So you decide to focus on literally anything else, as if you weren’t running for your life from a creature that was ripped out of a really bad storybook.

Speaking of the ugly beast, you can basically feel the Minotaur breathing down your neck, the stench of his breath making you gag. It seems that Bora has also understood your feelings because she has her nose crinkled and is trying to avoid taking very large breaths, which she ultimately fails because you know, running for your life tends to do that. 

With one last burst of energy, you push through the doors, ankle retaliating against so much usage after being hurt but you can’t pay attention because there’s a boy in a golden chariot that has giant ass wings on it and oh that’s definitely not approved by the TSA. Right. Because that was the biggest of your problems. 

The boy the chariot reaches a hand out to you, and you know that normally, you wouldn’t ever trust a stranger, especially not strangers with golden flying (or at least that’s what you assumed the wings the size of a horse were for) chariots, but your options were not looking too hot in either way. So you take his hand and let him hoist you into the vehicle, catching you when you stumble from the pressure on your foot. 

Smooth, you think. If you weren’t in so much pain and shock, you might’ve even found it attractive. Just then, you hear a scream from in front of you and you realize that Bora is nearly in the clutches of the Minotaur, apparently having let go of your hand at some point for long enough to fall behind. 

You try to reach forward to pull her into the chariot but your foot gives out on you and you collapse into a pile, unable to get up from your kneeling position. The boy guiding the chariot doesn’t have much luck either, doing everything in his power to keep the Minotaur away from the golden vehicle itself. Bora’s almost in the chariot, only two steps away when the ugly beast snatches her up in his large demon claw. You’re filled to the brim with adrenaline and anger, at the stupid cow for touching your sister and you feel your body give up controls to something else inside you. Something powerful. 

“Get away from my sister!” And with a large flash of light extended from your palms, you disintegrate the Minotaur. You have no time to contemplate your actions, however, as you collapse once more, and fall into the endless and dreamless sweetness of the darkness. 

When you wake up, you do so with a raging headache, clutching your head in anger, cursing yourself for drinking so much at the party yesterday. 

Wait. Party. You didn’t go to any party yesterday. 

And it all comes back like a flood, memories of what had happened crashing right in front of your eyes, ending with the release of energy you had exerted from your…hands? Groaning, you fall back against the pillows, head too muddled to think straight. Apparently, too cloudy to have even doubted where you were, as you raise with a start, taking in your surroundings.

The room that you’re situated, courtesy of the golden chariot boy you’re assuming, is quite nice, is a woodsy type of way. It looks just like an upscale cabin which has those vintage arcade games in the basement and definitely includes a hot tub. But no matter how cosy it looks, it doesn’t negate the fact that you still don’t know where the fuck you are and the fact that your head hurts as if you’d downed an entire bottle of tequila. Not that you knew from experience. Of course not. Bora would kill you if she heard you right now. 

The easy smile on your face quickly drops when you realize that you have no idea where Bora is. And that you don’t know what’s going on, where you are, who the Minotaur was after and why, and since when has that creepy looking boy has been stalking you. You shiver at the thought that the Minotaur had been hiding and watching you the entire time, which absolutely made no sense whatsoever. 

“Y/N? Oh my good lord, you’re awake!” You turn to see Bora, standing at the doorway of the room, one of her arms and ankles bandaged up. She’s standing with two other people: the boy from the chariot and uh…a man-horse? You don’t mean to stare but there is a person (a horson?) who’s standing there with an entire horse body and human torso. And no one seems phased by it. The horson (is it insensitive to call someone a horson?) looks down and an expression of realization overtakes his face. He beckons for the golden chariot boy to bring something and you all just wait in awkward silence, Bora moving from her position in the doorway to stand next to your bed. The man at the door says nothing and just smiles knowingly that confuses you and also makes you want to punch him for some strange reason. 

“What’s going on?” you whisper to Bora. She looks like she wants to say something but the golden chariot boy (say that three times real fast) comes back with a wheelchair. The horson slips into it, a blanket is thrown over his horse, uh, area, and voila! You can’t even tell that the person in the wheelchair was actually half horse. You’re not sure if the thought is reassuring or downright disturbing. And maybe your priorities are all over the place right now but really, no one can blame you because you’ve just been chased by a boy who turned into a Minotaur, emitted a ray of light from your palms that was so powerful that you disintegrated said Minotaur, and were brought to this weird cabin in the middle of nowhere in a golden chariot. And conveniently enough, no one saw. That was about the weirdest part. A monster the size of a truck and no one saw a thing, except for two young girls running at top speeds. You really should’ve pursued a track career.

“That’s a loaded question, Ms. L/N,” the wheelchair dude says, and you snap back to reality, squinting at the horson (it really does sound like a profanity now that you think about it).

“How do you know my name?” you ask, although you don’t sound nearly as suspicious as you really are. It’s a double-edged sword, being so beautiful. You definitely benefit from pretty-privilege and generally, you get away with things that you probably wouldn’t have if you weren’t so pretty. But it also means that people don’t take you as seriously as you would like them to. This time, however, it works in your favor, no one able to hear your inner turmoil. Your face is poised and composed, never giving away your true intentions. 

“Your sister has told us,” said the man in the wheelchair with another knowing smile that you definitely want to slap off of his face. Narrowing your eyes once more, you move to rise out of bed. It turns out to be the wrong move because as soon as you attempt to do so, you immediately lose your balance, falling into the arms of Bora, giving her a grateful smile as you rise, clutching onto her arm for dear life as you try to find a balance on your unstable feet.

“Don’t lie to me,” you say, and Bora’s stunned by you once again. You’re barely able to stand, one leg in a cast, hair tangled, floral dress not doing too much to make you look badass but you still look so strong. You look like you could take them both down if you needed to, even though your stability is dependent on your younger sister. “How do you know my name?”

“Have I not told you that your sister told us?” The man in the wheelchair doesn’t look scared by you at all. He looks rather amused, as if he found your question funny to him. Bora can tell that you’re put off by the amusement on the considerably older man’s face, but you suddenly grow rigid, shifting into a colder demeanour that she had only seen once in her entire life. 

Bora had gotten her first boyfriend, back in junior year of high school. She was head over heels for the boy, having been the quarterback on the football team and therefore, falling straight into the lap of luxury and popularity. She had been apprehensive that he liked her but she was young and naive and didn’t heed your advice when you told her to be careful. It had been the first real fight you had ever really gotten in with each other and she regretted it every day afterwards, when the very next day, she was humiliated in front of the entire school, the football team making fun of her for ever believing that the most popular boy in school would choose her. 

When you had found out that someone had made fun of your sister, you stormed the school, going to a football game with Bora, and seducing the quarterback before dumping him in front of the entire school, telling him that he was stupid for ever believing that the most beautiful women he would ever encounter actually liked him. You were talking about Bora of course. But the expression on your face was similar then, as if you were analyzing how to take this man down and leave him here for the crows to pick on. Wouldn’t be a first.

“I see…what did you say my sister’s name was?” The cold look of icy interrogation in your eyes lets the man in the wheelchair know that he’s lost, and for the first time, he seems to be at a loss for words. Then a slow smile breaks out onto his lips and he tugs the blanket over his legs to conceal them further.

“When your mother warned us that you were the fighter type, I wasn’t made aware that you were also tactical,” he says, as if it were the easiest thing in the world, contacting a goddess. Six seconds later, you figure it must be easier than you previously thought because in front of you stands the most beautiful woman you had ever seen in your entire life. A woman who bears a striking resemblance to you but at the same time, she seems so otherworldly. Perhaps because she was not of this world altogether. 

“My lady,” says the person in the wheelchair, discarding his disguise to bow to her in his natural form. You narrow your eyes and try to recall who she is when it hits you.
