The thing basically everyone gets wrong about Makima Chainsaw Man is that she's not some kind of seductive femme fatale, nor is she a terrifying yandere girlboss. She's some lady who works at an office. She's an NPC. Her suit is too big for her. She's got a dopey smile. She ate a corndog and cried at a stupid movie. She's Literally Just Some Guy.
And then also she did all that shit.
She's just some loser with power over an impressionable child. And everything that came afterwards is what it takes to convince the average reader that teenage boys being groomed and abused is bad, actually.
It does not take a femme fatale mastermind to manipulate and abuse an impressionable child. It doesn't take a girlboss to ruin a kid's life.
Like, she's a primordial demon and all that, but she is also just some lady who goes grocery shopping.
I think for me what makes the whole DLC schtick of Miq the kind/promised retcon so goddamn hard for me to accept, is the fact that so much of the base game regarding Miquella, alluded to him being the Tarnished's benefactor....
Just like:
Torrent being the most obvious, even in the DLC there is nothing discrediting Miquella from being Torrents former master, and so it is super interesting that Torrent would choose the Tarnished as their newest rider.
And then that leads into the whole Ranni interaction, where she gives us the Spirit Calling Bell and especially the three Wolf spirits(remember the statue at farum azula? I do fromsoft doesn't) specifically entrusted to her to give to the Tarnished from Torrents former master i.e Miquella!!!!
The ring which summons Torrent is specifically referred to as a "delicate goldwork ring" and Miquella was regarded as a craftsman, and made the unalloyed needles as well as Malenias prosthetics/weaponry
And if we defeat the Grafted Scion, the only thing we can do is be lured by the Nascent Butterfly's to a faulty cliff which starts the game and leads us to meeting Torrent
The Bewitching Branch being the only Demigod sanctioned item in the character creation segment....... (like fr miq being the very FIRST demigod you learn about from the character creation makes me crazy)
I just.... I'm just.... I feel like I'm clinging to nothing but strings with these connections in the base game... and then the whole DLC with the Miq/incest plot making me feel like I'm being gaslit into believing that these plot points don't even exist....
But fuck they DO EXIST. Like Gowrys entire quest with Millicent and the needle has him saying, "Oh yes, whoever crafted this needle had a clear grasp on the very essence of life," and just.... I hate it because it's there.

I cannot for the life of me make a new character and play the game fucking raw without Ranni and Gowry and even freaking Melina being like "Here's a blatant reference to Miquella and the connection to him" only for the DLC to be like "Yeah actually none of that means anything"
And just... it's so incredibly frustrating š
I can literally see the BONES of what Miquella was originally supposed to be. It's there. It's all THERE. Miquella's love for Malenia, his wish to cure her. Miquella's adoration for Godwyn, and his wish to grant him a true death. And Miquella's Abundance and just... everything he was supposed to be....
(like fr lmaoooo even in the online messaging system the allusion to Miquellas Abundance IS FREAKIN THERE š)
Miquella's entire connection to Torrent and so too his connection to Ranni, the fact that she specifically reserved the Bell and Wolf Spirits for whoever Torrent chooses as his next master, the fact that Ranni KNOWS Torrent.... And for it to go nowhere in the dlc....
BUT AT THE SAME TIME!!!!
The overwhelming evidence of Miquella being Torrents former master and the DLC doing nothing to disprove that, makes Miquella wanting to kill us so goddamn jarring.
It's just... Okay seriously think about it: Torrent CHOSE us specifically, then Ranni has stuff to give us from Torrents former master, and then everything in the base game and even the DLC points to Miquella being associated with Torrent.... And yet now Miq wants to kill us even tho he asked Ranni to give us the Summoning Bell and Torrent choosing us as his next master....
AND I JUST H U N H????
and dont even get me started on Godwyn š absolutely hilarious how the only other characters connected to him are either Miq, Ranni or Marika, (ranni killing him, marika shattering the elden ring bc of his death, and miq wanting to revive him) and then the entire dlc is like godwyn who???? here's some cheap lore despite fortissax being awesome where his personal guard doesn't care about their lord but only his cursed corpse š
I'm sorry but I seriously can never accept the DLCs writing for Miquella even when I try and do mental gymnastics for it to make any kind of sense... Because at the end of the day, with all the base game lore regarding Miquella and everything the DLC tried to put down, it will ultimately never make any sense to me.
More so I think Godwyn was supposed to be the one we fight at the DLC. It would make sense for Miquella to try to restore his former glory instead of...making Radahn into the terminator 5000 (and if he took Mohg's body why does he have only one attack relating to him...)
Also everything we know about Melina, I feel like she should of at least had SOME connection to Miquella other then she's Messmer sister and that's it
Miquella not only cured Freyja, but according to the guidebook, he personally took her out of the mire and nursed her wounds.

Wow it sure is amazing that Miquella can now cure Scarlet Rot even though the base lore is that Scarlet Rot is incurable and comes from a sealed away Outer God and Miquella dedicated his entire life to trying to find a cure and the closest that he came to a cure was Unalloyed Gold but even then that wasn't a cure and could only stave off the Rots effects just barely and so Malenia and the Cleanrots would sadly have to continue rotting from the inside out
but its just so great that Miquella can magically cure Scarlet Rot now and that Unalloyed Gold isn't an Outer God repellent anymore just gold magic so fucking great ahahahahahahaha ha hahaahah ha ha ha ha ha
I used to see someone say this can be St. Trina, and I really hope so, but no, this is Miquella. Heās surely fine with the fact that his sister was carried away by only one knight instead of worrying about it, hahahahaha :(

It's been years and I'm still not over how we first see Homura fighting with explosives but it turns out her actual power is time manipulation and she uses it to steal bombs and guns from the cops
this is literally why homura just kept becoming my favorite more and more as the series went on.
even when she was a frail, shy, and meek girl who didnāt have rly any self confidence or esteem, she was still incredibly smart to the point where it was a bit intimidating/strange (but completely in a good way !!), even before she removed her glasses and braids.
even tho she surely didnāt see herself as one at the time, she has always been an incredible ally and a terrifying enemy.

originally tried to save all of the girls before she eventually gave up bc it was literally impossible,
literally ran like hell to get sayakaās soul gem back after madoka chucked it off the bridge and even closely inspected it w such care to make sure it wasnāt damaged at all,
admitted that she has hurt people (most likely the magica quartet, aka all of her friends, bc who else?) and feels immense guilt abt it and wishes she could erase it all (she literally says that hurting mami hurt HER),
canāt bare to kill mami (she looks so conflicted and sad when pointing the gun at her) and canāt even look at her when she shoots her in the leg bc she rly doesnāt want to hurt her,
subconsciously created a desired reality that she brought all of her friends (even kyosuke and hitomi, implying that she even cares for them as well) into where alive, happy, and together (ppl seem to forget that homuraās labyrinth was literally what sheās wanted deep down before it started to fall apart as she realized it was fake; sayaka literally points out how a witch who just wants to keep everyone happy and out of harm canāt be that bad, and kyuubey points out how homura would have most likely preferred to stay in this fake, happy world instead of realizing the horrible truth),
apologizes to kyoko for āgetting her involved in thisā after she realizes that she herself is the witch, aka most likely apologizing for wasting kyokoās time when she asked her to go to kazamino city w her and for calling her,
rewrote reality in order to bring sayaka and bebe back to life and give everyone the happy life they always desired and deserved (she is literally willing to proclaim herself as āevilā and āthe devilā and be unhappy if it means that madoka and everyone else gets to be happy and alive, safe from all the pain and the incubators who are still trying to prey on them and all magical girls)
the thing about pmmm analyses that a lot of you people forget is that these girls are like. 14. forget the loops they're literally mentally all kids. it's not so much about selfishness or selflessness. you miss the point. you forget who the real enemy is: the incubators, for the deception and abuse.
AND ALSO. putting all my beef in one big post. i would argue even with all the christian allegories that madokami represents jesus/god but homura does not represent the devil.
why? because homura hates herself. she loathes her very existence. she fancies herself evil for pulling madokami from the sky but she doesn't want power.
the devil does not hate himself. the devil is proud. he loves himself, and only himself. he wants power. he wants to rule.
homura does not want to rule. she wants everyone she cares about -- that's right, all of the quintet, not just madoka -- to be happy. even if it means playing the bad guy. even if it means splintering. even it means she has to break herself and fall apart and become her beloved's enemy. homura treats herself as evil in the way an unreliable narrator would.
this is not about the devil and god. i'm not educated on the bible enough to know for sure what this is. but my best guess?
this is about jesus and judas.

they're just trying to make things work in the way that aligns with their own youthful motives. the way that they love. throughout the series, madoka wants to save everyone and had the power to. homura wants to save everyone and only had the power to increase madoka's potential.
that is the difference between them.
remember? homura called herself a demon. demons are different from the devil himself, and yeah, girl needs an exorcism from her girlfriend.
if you call homura and madoka selfish or selfless you're missing the point and actually, you're adhering to reductive readings of not just the media but how you may be approaching mentally ill kids too. art imitates life and all that.

one thing i feel like some ppl forget, gloss over, or just donāt know abt madoka/madokami, is that her existence as a concept/god is much more than being lonely and unhappy, it also involves a cycle of endless and constant suffering and purification w absolutely no reward outside of saving magical girls from being witches.
let me explain:
when madoka made her wish, aka became a god, she swore to prevent all witches from the past, the present, and the future forever, meaning that madoka is CONSTANTLY sending herself everywhere at once all the time in order to do that, while also having to absorb the negative energy from their gems AND purify it all at the same time.
could you imagine just how absolutely fucking exhausting and lonely that is? not only does no one know or remember her, outside of homura, and she canāt even interact w anybody outside of her role as a savior and a god.
and she constantly has to purify all of the negative energy she absorbs 24/7. is an endless cycle with, as i said before, zero reward except for preventing witches.
thereās a scene in rebellion where madoka reaches for homura, and each time she does, you can see scars littered on her arm (s). not only is that a literal representation of her dying for the āsinsā, aka wishes of all magical girls, but i also think that theyāre meant to signify madokaās pain, the pain she hides and lies about behind her god status and her genuine, loving demeanor.
itās why the flower scene is so important and powerful; yes, it may have been madoka w/o her proper memories intact, but thatās exactly it: madoka is only able to be so honest w homura right then and there bc she doesnāt remember her godly obligations, all of her guilt and responsibilities at all.
and homura knows all of this. itās why her reaction is so intense, desperate, and painful, esp after her fake world begins to rly fall apart; like madoka, homura very easily blames herself for a lot, even the stuff that isnāt rly her fault and sheās just being unfair/mean to herself.
i rly, rly hate the notion and misconception that homura ānever accepted/respected madokaās wish/madoka becoming a godā, or even worse, āhomura just wants to keep madoka weak and helpless !!!ā or wtv, bc itās literally just WRONG. loud and wrong. itās so irritating.
homura quite literally DID except both at the end of the main series and in rebellion when she began to get her real memories back.
in fact, even during the flower field scene after hearing madokaās true feelings (again, shinbo, one of the creators of madoka magica and rebellion even said that they ARE madokaās true feelings, not a lie, not smth fake) and feeling even more responsible for madoka becoming a god in the first place and for lying to herself by telling herself that madoka was really and completely happy and okay w the divine sacrifice she made,
she literally tells madoka to her face right then that sheās WRONG abt herself, that she DOES and WILL have the ability to make impossible decisions when it matters bc of how genuine and kind she truly is, and sheās right.
and she still decides to believe and put her faith in god madoka, even when her god is dying in front of her very eyes (you know why the clara dolls chant āgott ist tot !!ā throughout the movie? it means āgod is deadā and itās a metaphorical saying) in that moment because she now knows god is not HAPPY.
that resolve completely breaks apart when the isolation field and incubatorās seal are broken, and she can no longer protect madoka or any of the other girls from the incubatorās plan that only homura is aware of w/o doing smth completely fucking crazy and drasticā¦ which, as u see, she did.
and even then, she doesnāt want madoka to regain her memories and reach her godly status again, bc that would only lead to madokaās loneliness and suffering again, and homura is NOT about to let that happen.
homura is so, SO much more complex than she gets credit for, and i rly hate it when ppl view her and her character/actions w a black and white lens while literally forgetting several important aspects of the movie.
even if the dlc did make sense in the lore somehow (which it doesn't) it would still suck lmao. like the themes of the cycle of trauma and abuse is so overdone and it's tired. plus it's like 70% dark souls and bloodborne references. and we didn't even really get to meet the titular character. really makes me not want to play the game tbh.
Yeah I agree about the overused cycle of trauma thing somewhat, but y'see I think it could have been done fine if Fromsoft didn't completely flip Miquella's lore on its head:
In the base game Miquella rejected Fundamentalism and the Erdtree because it could do nothing to cure Malenia of her rot and he was appalled by the Erdtree/Marikas treatment of the Misbegotten and other races of the world. He literally created God Fuck Off metal to grant Malenia respite and could also clearly drive away the Frenzied Flame as well as the other Outer Gods with it's potential ... But now Miquella is all about following in his moms footsteps and being a brainwasher who wants to marry his brother???? Huh?????????????
Literally. How does Miquella creating an Age of "Compassion" fix the fact that his sister is infested with an Outer God and his brother is literally unalived cancer and spreading at an alarming rate????
I can somewhat understand the DLC stance where Miquella wishes to purge/atone for all the horrible things that his mother has done, but the problem is that it's conveyed in such a way that makes it quite frankly extremely weak storytelling and boring. Turning Miquella into a a fanatical Martyr really destroys the ideology of Base Game Miquella who did everything in his power to save the ones that he loved, creating a haven for the outcasts of the world, creating Unalloyed Gold to give relief to Malenia, doing all that he could with the Mausoleums and the Eclipse to try a grant Godwyn a true death. The whole "Miquella abandons everything" plot in the DLC in my opinion is EXTREMELY WEAK storytelling and a massive disservice to Miquella's base game character, and ngl, it only furthers my belief that Fromsoft had absolutely no idea how to handle Miquella's character.
Speaking of Miquella's character: Fromsoft did not need to go absolutely full fucking tilt on Miquella's Bewitching Powers to the point that it is his only goddamn personality.
The thing that pisses me off the most about how Miquella's character is handled in the DLC is that everything about him from the Base Game is literally thrown out the fucking window. The Haligtree, the Albinaurics loyalty to Miquella(i hate you gaius oh how i hate you), his character defining bond with Malenia, his relationship with Godwyn EVERYTHING he did to try and grant his beloved brother a true death, THE ECLIPSE!!!!
It just all means fucking nothing in the DLC. Nothing happens with any of the things that made Miquella so goddamn interesting.
Miquella the Unalloyed, the character that I fell in love with doesn't even exist anymore. He's now been replaced with Miquella the Kind, a character who was specifically crafted to give Miyazaki an excuse to shoehorn radahn into the story and to make it so there is a big-bad final DLC boss so that we kill Miquella so he won't have any large impact on the overall outcome of Elden Rings story.
But honestly that's just it though. That's where the problem with the DLC lies; the fact that Fromsoft had doubled down on their idea that their DLCs should be their own thing and isolated from the rest of the main story.
For a game as large and expansive as Elden Ring and for Miquella who in the base game his presence and importance could be felt nearly everywhere, keeping the DLC isolated was a massive MASSIVE mistake, and it only makes the story presented feel disconnected and unimpactful.
Now do I know anything about game design? No. Do I know anything about how hard it is to make games. Nope but I can imagine.
BUT.
I definitely think that Fromsoft and the DLC would have benefited immensely if it were delayed just a bit longer. I would not have minded in the slightest if the DLC was delayed 3 years. 4 years. IDC. The DLC evidently needed much more time to cook and to actually have been made with love and an understanding of its own lore.
And what's even more frustrating is that there are actually SO many ways they could've made the DLC and Miquella have weight on the story while keeping it mostly isolated from the main game; Just like how the Painter in the Ashes of Ariendel was creating a new world as the old one was burning away. Miquella and his Unalloyed Gold could have created a world where the Outer Gods no longer had any influence, just like how Goldmask and even Ainsbach said: "Create a world for men not the Gods."
Except well, that's honestly kind of impossible seeing how the story forces us to kill the one character who had the power to banish the Gods, and going off with Ranni into the Stars leaves the Lands Between vulnerable for the other Outer Gods to swoop in and lay claim to whatever they want, and also Death Root is still very much a problem, still spreading its cancer all over the Lands Between and even beyond time, meanwhile the story forces us to kill the one person who was trying to grant the cancers source a true death......

We never get to meet Miquella even though there is a SHITTON of evidence that he was actually helping us in the base game (see the spirit summoning bell, Torrent in general, cut quest/ending involving miq etc)
Just... Absolutely awful writing and sadly... This is what we got. And what an absolute fucking mess it all is š
