It just got announced, The Journey to Killing You is getting a sequel!!!
Earlier today Wada and Takahashi went live for the last instagram stream for season one and were walking around eggshells with Takahashi pretty much vibrating on his seat trying to keep it quiet.
Wada has been subtly dropping hints about the sequel for a while now: has even revealed that he's been practicing the lines of volume two of the manga in his free time.
It is going to be a brand new season (the boys keep asking for a movie though). To celebrate here are a few notes from the show that I manage to compile:
Wada and Takahashi were not the first choices for the roles, during pre-production the two actors previously cast left the project, Takahashi was called after a good audition for Odajima and Wada was invited to take the role of Kataoka.
They have a 9-year age difference, and were afraid that this could create some sort of social gap between them, turns out they share a similar sense of humor and bonded rather quickly during filming.
The sex scene featured in episode 2 was choreographed by the actors themselves, the show does not have an intimacy coordinator, so director Kamijo Daisuke asked Masa and Hiro to play the scene in a manner that would work for them. The duo rehearsed a couple of times before shooting the scene. Wada sees the moment almost as if they were acting a mating ritual seen in the wild.
Prior to the show Wada didn't had an Instagram account, and his X/Twitter profile had been dormant, once the show began he saw demand for his presence and since then his numbers soared.
The show has a big fanbase in mainland China, which led to Takahashi being featured in two chinese magazines after the show ended — the chinese market was a big pull for the home media release, the show is not legally available there.
It also boasts good numbers in Thailand, in which the show managed to secure one fan-event after it's conclusion.
In Japan was a FOD (Fuji on Demand) exclusive title, it shares this trait with Old Fashion Cupcake - hence why both shows have small impact in their home country.
However, even with a limited release, both Wada and Takahashi manage to appear at the Modelpress ranking of 2025, a feat most impressive considering the vehicle's demographic and their competition there.
It was not planned for this series to have a physical media release, visual book, magazine endorsements nor events of any kind. When audience numbers picked up and ratings soared both within Japan and overseas, production had to bring both actors back for a make-shift marketing campaign.
Wada was already busy with new commitments when the series surged in popularity, which why he couldn't properly advertise it.
He was about to start shooting a new movie when the show blew up, which is why Hiroto is seen solo in most of the post-release promotion.
The series was also meant to be a FOD (Fuji on Demand) exclusive, similar to Old Fashion Cupcake, but by popular demand it received a broadcast showing, airing at the late night slot at FujiTV with delayed viewing at TVer.
In there it performed on par with BL shows in the first airing such as Your Home Tutor, Kishi Knight and Countdown to Yes.
The show wrapped it's original run being the Nº1 Drama at FOD during October while rounding the Global Top 20 at Gagaoolala of 2025. Another impressive feat since it only has 6 episodes ranging on the 22-minutes mark, which means it needed repeated viewing to match competition.
It's the Nº1 Original BL Show at the japanese platform, besting Old Fashion Cupcake, Love in The Air - Premonition of Love and Love Sea - The Home for Lovers. Throughout it's run, Journey also ranked as the Nº1 original FujiTV show for 8 weeks (all-around, including variety shows).
While first airing the live action, the manga reached Nº4 at the Fuji Books sales chart.
