t'lyn in my style
It's curious.
Whenever you see someone talking about their love for the Fifteenth Doctor, it's as if there was a legal mandate to start with “I know RTD--”
Every single time I see a post trying to be positive about Thirteen's era, without fail, it always starts with “I know her era isn't perfect”/“I know she has some bad episodes”/“While it's not without its flaws”.
You know what I've never seen?
A Twelfth Doctor fan saying “I know the way Moffat kills off companions--”, or “I know In the Forest of the Night and Kill the Moon are a thing, but--”
An Eleventh Doctor fan having to specify that they love him “even though the storylines were a mess”.
A Tenth Doctor fan starting with “say what you want about the Skeletor Master or Love & Monsters--”
And like, gee. I wonder why that is. Why, even when talking about the positives, there seems to be almost an obligation to first point out that it's not perfect and you don't think it's perfect and it'll never be perfect. Why that sense of obligation only seems to exist for the Doctors who are a Woman or Black. I sure wonder.
Actually, you know what, I changed my mind, Nine isn't an exception. I can imagine a world where Nine is under as much scrutiny as Thirteen of Fifteen and it's almost impossible to praise the era without first getting out of the way that you of course don't think plastic-bin-Mickey or the farting Slitheen are great.
And like. No era of the show is perfect. They all have their areas that are deserving of criticism. But there exists a double standard, where it's acceptable for the fans of the eras with white men Doctors to just gloss over them and simply express their love for the stuff they do find valuable, whereas any conversation about Thirteen or Fifteen is immediately redirected towards its biggest flaws as a sort of "gotcha" if they're not addressed first (or, let's be real, even when they are).
Conversations about Thirteen and Fifteen are basically impossible without first ceding ground about their inherent and inescapable flaws, which means you're technically allowed to love them as much as you want, but only if you first affirm that you are aware that they are bad. Which just serves to further cement 13 and 15 as "the bad Doctors" by standards that the other Doctors are simply not held to. And that is nothing but pure misogyny and racism.
And you could say "well I think the other fans should simply also acknowledge the flaws in their eras", but that's beside the point. If you get into a detailed analysis of the era and everything that works about it, you will also uncover all the things that don't. And that's true of any era. But if you just want to express why you enjoy or love a certain Doctor, any Doctor, you shouldn't be expected to immediately lay out a nuanced account of all their strengths and weaknesses.
Comics are kind of torture and take so much effort and people will read your half a years of hard work in 20 minutes if you can even get them to at all, but you should make them anyway because between all of that it’s fun and awesome
It's curious.

Ever since Jay Exci (of The Nitpicking Fall of Doctor Who fame) said that the reason 13th Doctor fans aren't accepted in the fandom is because we're not considerate enough of the opinions of people who hate the era, I've vowed never, ever to do this. If a 10th/11th/12th/etc. Doctor fan doesn't have to preface everything they say with "I know this era sucks but" then neither the fuck do I. If anyone has a problem with that, they can deal with it on their own time.

happy pride month from the tribbles
star trek heritage post (June 7th, 2017)
26 yrs. ago.
The Daily Mail; being wrong about the modern world since at least the year 2000.
Oh that’s hilarious. Published in 2000. The internet had already been around for a couple decades. It was just gaining more popularity
Trans activist Jamison Green's passport photos before and after HRT. Left he's age 32 (1980) Right age 41 (1989) after being on testosterone for one year (x)
(read his autobiography here for free)
updated the link to his autobiography because it was broken! here's some more pictures of him (first is mid 90s, second 2013 and last 2024)
there's an interview with him from 2017 along with some information about his life and activism. and he was interviewed on a podcast here. he's not super well known but has been a really important trans activist for decades
Hot take but rigid divisions between queer identities and heavily-policed labels that are treated like diagnoses are really, really bad.
Trans men have shared histories with lesbians who have shared histories with bisexual women who have shared histories with ace people who have shared histories with aro people have shared histories with gay men who have shared histories with trans women who have shared histories with nonbinary people who have shared histories with etc etc etc etc etc.
Labels are important for people who want them, but we need to stop treating sexuality and gender as rigid boxes and checklists.
yes. labels aren’t a fort you need to protect; labels are a pin you can add to your backpack to signal being part of something. You can, in fact, have more than one label (as a treat).
Mutuals who I have hardly spoken with but we instead communicate through silently liking and reblogging each other's posts... I hope you're all having a lovely day ✨

i drew all the vintage time travel PhD guys from memory
the only difference this announcement has made is that there's no christmas special. this is definitely what was going to happen following it so in a way it's a good thing. it means fresh doctor who will only be coming quicker as we don't have to wait til next year for it to go out to tender
Screenshot from The Royal Charter from the BBC website.
I know a lot of people are taking "competitive tender" as meaning "already cancelled" but the BBC is actually required to put all their shows out to competitive tender before 2028. Meaning that had the special gone ahead, this is pretty certainly where we would be this time next year anyway. I'm not saying there's any guarantees for the future based on this, but the fact they're looking for external production teams really does not mean the show is over or there is no intention of continuing it.
