Oct-21. Scene Re-opening again. London.
went to a gig night last friday, was tot fab seeing peeps havent seen since lockdowns, all of them with big smiles on their faces, feeding the mostpit, cheering the bands. NouveauBleach+Palaver+AwayFans, colin, tom, rae, kay and dee, ricardo, all the good old crew. made me think things might actually return to normal, not sure what kind of normality. camden was wild with hundreds of drunk girls on high heels wearing glittery tops and miniskirts, demanding lighters for cigs, holding their iphones on one hand and small handbags on the other. felt choreographed as in matching what i remembered and expected. eight weeks after 16 counties visited in the land of the 35-hrs week, plus 5 days in st ives, being at joes bar felt like a full enthusiastic reopening. got me thinking about subset of course as we have plenty of plans and have been offered gigs but didn’t conclude any as not sure attendance/worth investment atm. without punters demanding live action it’s too risky to put huge pressure on our post pandemic positioning. peeps dont want bands anymore, all they want is drunken mess with peeps surrounded with instruments, no matter what genre or location, so that they can either feel part of smthg or exercise occasionally mean connoisseur assessment of what they see/feel. me and the lads want to get around this. alternative music feels dead as it doesnt impress or surprise anyone, not sure the whole uber-emotional display works anymore. guitars becoming synths. interruptions or breaks totally unnecessary. thought clubbing/danse/transe music would make a massive come back but nope everybody is on their phones impatiently searching for something/someone they’ll never grab. spent so much time checking all new releases from 100s of bands out there, only a few have impressed inspired such as Bohmer, Brocco, The Hell, Architects, Royal Blood, Bizkit, Mods, Truise, Dreamreaper, Yuknowatt, Frontierer, Eximperitus, Dygora, Dacelyn, Waveshaper, Forhill, Tonebox, Halvar, Overmono, Wayfloe etc
