adulthood is like....I’m trying to get back into the concept of having hobbies

one of the best things about teaching middle school is that they’re young enough to see me as an authority figure despite the fact that i’m pretty young for a teacher but they’re old enough to understand and laugh at the concept of phases, and what i’m really getting at here is that i lost control of my classroom for a couple of minutes today because i told them that i had an emo phase when i was their age

judging by the amount of shrieking in the room you’d think i was torturing them but really it was because i told them my favorite band at the time was evanescence

This is both spiteful AND practical, because you can’t control whether or not they give you a safe following distance for the speed you’re travelling, but you CAN reduce the speed you both have to travel, having the triple benefit of  A) increasing the likelihood that they’ll have enough time to stop without rear-ending you.  B) lowering the speed of any possible collision and thus the severity and  C) Pissing the fucker the fuck off.

I feel so valid now

one beautiful thing I learned recently is that the origin of ‘coming out’ was that a person was coming out TO gay society. gay men in nyc in the early 1900s would have debutante-style celebrations where they came out and presented themselves (in high fashion ofc) to other gay folks. it wasnt until the 70s/80s that ‘coming out’ meant coming out FROM a hidden place TO cishet people. anyway my point is that I wanna have a belated debutante party.

yeah fluff is good for the soul but i love conflict. i really like problematic situations in the narrative. big ass fuck ups. characters crying, feeling betrayed, getting angry at each other, missed opportunities. happy endings feel so much better earned after characters have reached rock bottom. i wanna see them fail, again and again, and get back up again. that is why i enjoy fiction, to see people commit terrible mistakes and still redeem themselves. to reflect on human nature, and to understand that no one is beyond redemption.
