Etienne Jacob: New Work
Etienne Jacobs, who has been featured in Cross Connect before, is a 24 year old from France working on a Masters Degree in Applied Mathematics. He saw the work of Wavegrower and was inspired: He wanted to do the same kind of thing. He succeeded. Now you see his gifs all over Tumblr, and for good reason. While they are generative based on math, they are also extremely seductive experiences for a viewer because he has a great sense of motion and design - and he makes great vortices. Why just black and white? Again, being inspired by Wavegrower, he said about other colors ‘I feel like it adds nothing, it is unnecessary’. I have to agree. His gifs are perfect for now, as is.
You can see more of his work at Necessary Disorder

Marco Polo title sequence
creation by The Mill
Marco Polo, series based on a true story in Kublai Khan’s court in Thirteen century China. The creative team at Mill wanted to visually represent the metaphors of the show with themes of greed, betrayal, sexual intrigue & rivalry by contrasting them with various images of beauty, grace, and authenticity. Important note on the last image: in the drop hides an ‘easter egg’, a skull !

Clash of the History of Art with Pop Culture in Digital Collages Shusaku Takaoka
Shusaku Takaoka is a Japanese graphic designer and an expert at turning history into a hipster. His works hilariously transform some of the classical art world’s most iconic faces into modern city slickers, and we actually wouldn’t be surprised if we saw any of these made-over canvas characters chilling on the subway, or strutting the latest trends on Broadway. But Takaoka didn’t stop there - he’s also reimagined them as movie stars, magazine covers, and even baristas. For more check out his Instagram.

Just plain fascinating.
The Art of Beau Stanton
A multi-disciplinary artist, Stanton’s work takes the form of paintings, murals, large scale installations, stained glass, mosaics, and multimedia animations. Focusing on meticulous technique and craft, Stanton’s work is heavily informed by historic ornamentation, religious iconography, and classical painting. A keen interest in iconic visual symbols and Jungian archetypes often provides the foundation for his images.
Stanton is originally from California where he studied Illustration at Laguna College of Art and Design. He relocated to New York after graduating in 2008 where continues to live and work in Red Hook, Brooklyn constantly drawing inspiration from local nautical history. His Instagram.

Mixed Media Paintings by Kazuki Takamatsu
Kazuki Takamatsu was born in Sendai, Japan in 1978. Influenced by media and subculture growing up, he attended the Department of Oil Painting at Tohoku University of Art & Design and graduated in 2001. Takamatsu’s depth-mapping technique, a style of illustration inspired by Japanese girl’s comics, is as unique as it is painstakingly intricate, fusing classic drawing, airbrush and gouache painting with computer graphics. In this method, the individual pixel becomes a shade of gray which is proportional to the distance from which the viewer sees it
