A two-litre jug of orange juice was selling for $26.29 at one local grocer; a four-litre bottle of milk was $10.39, with a sign advising shoppers it would be $20.91 without the federal Nutrition North subsidy. The food bank itself is running hand to mouth — a sign of the strain on Iqaluit’s social services.

Canada’s Stephen Harper government is spending more than 60 billion dollars on new military jets and warships while slashing more than 200 million dollars in funding for research and monitoring of the environment.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper and his federal government continue to reject calls for a formal study into the prevalence of aboriginal women whose lives end in violence, with opponents calling his latest tact unnecessarily “callous” and another sign that things won’t change.

During an end-of-year interview with CBC News, Prime Minister Stephen Harper reiterated that an inquiry was not a priority for the government at this time.

These are all issues that have been widely talked about, but I haven’t seen enough posts going around that actually urge Canadians to step up their game and act.

Please help us to bring these matters to Harper’s attention. The “if it isn’t being acknowledged by the majority, then it must not be important” mentality is not an acceptable option when dealing with hunger and missing people. Feel free to add on more news clippings or issues to this post. There are many problems at hand that need to be seen, acknowledged, and resolved.
